This is a really good meeting at Cheltenham on Friday, with a real mixed bag of races. This meeting is on the New Course – unlike the Paddy Power meeting on the Old Course – and that puts more emphasis on stamina.

    12:05 Dysart Enos

Fergal O’Brien is rattling along with lots of winners and this filly DYSART ENOS, who won the Aintree bumper last season, made a nice start at Huntingdon in her hurdles career.

The form of that race is strong and it’s interesting that the trainer pitches her in against the boys now. Nicky Henderson’s Kintail is starting to jump better now and can only improve.

    12:40 Grey Dawning

The form of his Haydock win got a boost when Apple Away won very easily at Leicester during the week. GREY DAWNING has to concede weight but the form of his third place finish on seasonal debut to Stay Away Fay at Exeter reads really well now also.

Trelawne is an interesting contender for Kim Bailey and is definitely on the up but may find the Skelton team too strong this time.

      13:15 Williethebuilder

It could be a good day for Team Skelton as they start down the handicap route with WILLIETHEBUILDER. They obviously feel his handicap mark after a good fourth to Lookaway in a Grade 2 hurdle at Cheltenham last time warrants it.

Hopefully there’s a strong pace as this son of Arcadia can be keen in running. The faster they go, the better it will suit him.

      13:50 Walk in Clover

WALK IN CLOVER is a very versatile mare who has won at trips from two to three miles and the beauty of her run style is that she is a very strong traveller and can be ridden cold from off the pace.

Gavin Cromwell’s La Malmason is a big danger but carrying top weight in this ground won’t be easy. She has not looked the strongest of finishers in the past and that just puts me off.

      14:25 Le Ligerien

A good winner at Kempton last time for Joe Tizzard and unlike some of these, his form is consistent. LE LIGERIEN has gone up in the ratings but should handle conditions and sets a good standard.

Top Ville Ben very nearly got the vote, but dropping back to 2m 4f may mean some of these are snapping at his heels early and that will not help in this Veteran’s Chase.

          15:00 Galvin

This Cross Country Chase is a handicap and the 3m 5f trip and the experience that GALVIN has in these races now should help. The ground will be a big factor too as it’s heavy on the Cross Country Chase course so will take some getting.

          15:35 Bold Endeavour (each-way)

This sort of test should be perfect for Nicky Henderson’s charge BOLD ENDEAVOUR. He stays well and jockey Freddie Gordon is able to use his 5lb claim which will help a lot. He looks the value bet each-way in an open contest.
