13:15 York – Starlore (each-way)

It’s another marathon on ITV Saturday starting here with a Listed race for juveniles over 6 furlongs (f). I’m happy to give STARLORE another chance here for Richard Kingscote and Sir Michael Stoute.

The son of Kingman looked good on debut at Sandown over 7f but didn’t get home over that trip when behind Aablan in the Solario. That form has taken some knocks but the drop in trip looks a good movie and I’ll risk a few quid each-way.

13:25 Newmarket – Arabic Legend

At Newmarket ITV start with this Group 3 Autumn Stakes for youngsters over 1 mile (m). Godolphin have a good line on ARABIC LEGEND but I hope he’ll be good enough here for Sean Levey and Andrew Balding.

Levey is in the Rosallion silks who beat the likely favourite in this at Ascot. Arabic Legend started well at Newmarket and then finished second in a Listed race at Salisbury. He stayed on well that day and should be suited to this test.

14:00 Newmarket – City Of Troy

The best juvenile race in Europe in the Group 1 Dewhurst over 7f. This features the hugely impressive Justify offspring CITY OF TROY. The youngster is very well named, as many find it hard to justify whether there is any historical reality behind the Trojan War.

What we do know is that the equine City of Troy looked like a machine on debut at the Curragh and a monster in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket in July. He’s been off the track a little while now for Aidan O’Brien, but is already been talked up as if he’s a wonder horse. That is reflected in his price of about 5-2 for next year’s 2000 Guineas.

14:25 York – Significantly

This is a 6f handicap. Albasheer should have beaten SIGNIFICANTLY in the Ayr Gold Cup but this faster track will favour the latter and I see no reason why he won’t go in again up just 4lb for his Scottish success.

The Julie Camacho runner has been in tremendous form for most of the season and travelled like a horse who will love York last time. Ryan Sexton takes off a useful 3lb as well.

14:40 Newmarket – Vino Victrix

The big betting race of the day in the Cesarewitch Handicap over 2m2f. It says a lot that runners trained by mainly jumps people in Gordon Elliott (Pied Piper), Emmet Mullins (The Shunter) and Noel Meade (Jesse Evans) have leading contenders. I’ll be stunned if Pied Piper stays – but I have been stunned before.

I’m hoping VINO VICTRIX goes one better than last year when he chased home Run for Oscar off a mark of 92. Now it takes a leap of faith expecting him to score, as twelve months ago he was in cracking form and came into the race on the back of a win at Goodwood.

On the plus side he’s now 2lb lower off 90, once again has the talented Benoit de la Sayette on top and has a decent draw in stall 12. Added to all that, his fourth last time in the same Goodwood event wasn’t totally hopeless and he plugged in a fashion that very much suggested it was a race of preparation.

15:05 York – Align The Stars

A maiden over 1m. Assailant might easily win this first time out, but the chances are the experience of ALIGN THE STARS will get him home for Charlie Johnston and Jason Hart. He’s close to being an 80 rated horse after two efforts, and he’ll stay strong after keeping on well over further last time. This is a big chance to get off the mark.

15:15 Newmarket – Arabian Crown

The Group 3 Zetland Stakes for youngsters over 1m2f. Having tipped up Arabic Legend above there’s no surprise then here that I like the horse who beat that animal in ARABIAN CROWN.

The colt backed up a Sandown maiden win at Salisbury in good style and it’s interesting he goes here rather than the Royal Lodge. Big chance for Charlie Appleby and William Buick and the pair landed the Salisbury prize and this event with Flying Honours last year.

15:35 York – Certain Lad

Here’s a handicap over an extended 1m2f. If plenty of rain fell yesterday there should be a bit of juice in the surface and that will be right up the street of CERTAIN LAD who goes for Jack Channon and George Bass who takes off 3lb.

That technically brings down my hope’s mark to 97, and he was running at York off 107 in July. A second at Sandown two runs ago off 101 suggests the ability is still there. He does need a bit of give though so watch the weather.

15:50 Newmarket – Highland Avenue

Another Group 3 in the Darley Stakes over 1m1f. HIGHLAND AVENUE has been lacking pace over further so I’m not sure what he will be like at this trip. However, he’s going to be very hard to keep out the frame for Charlie Appleby and William Buick.

The Wolferton fourth was no match for Al Aasy at Newbury last time but should find this easier.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
