13.35 Chepstow – Aye Right
ITV mixes the best of jumping and the Flat in a marathon show Friday starting here with a veterans’ handicap chase over nearly 3m. AYE RIGHT can go well fresh and is going to get a few of these off the bridle if going from the front.
He’s on a reasonable mark of 150 and while at the age of ten he’s not going to be getting any better Ryan Mania should get a good spin from the Harriet Graham and Gary Rutherford-handled runner. This time last year he was a good second at Kelso off 156.
13.50 Newmarket – Flora Of Bermuda
The Flat at Newmarket starts with this Group 3 in the Cornwallis for youngsters over 5f. A wide open renewal. I’m relying on plenty of rain coming with this selection as I think FLORA OF BERMUDA needs juice to score. But there is rain forecast and the daughter of Dark Angel lapped up the soft when scoring at Goodwood and when second to Big Evs at Doncaster. If it’s wet, the selections has every chance for Oisin Murphy and Andrew Balding.
14.10 Chepstow – Captain Teague
Always a good heat, the Grade 2 Persian War Novices’ Hurdle over an extended 2m3f. Some really promising types but there is no doubt CAPTAIN TEAGUE is the one to bet for Harry Cobden and the champion Paul Nicholls.
The champion bumper third from Cheltenham is built to jump and having won a point-to-point hurdling should be a piece of cake.
14.25 Newmarket – Dance Sequence
Another Group 3 in the Oh So Sharp again for juveniles but fillies over 7f. It’s been a rotten season for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin but DANCE SEQUENCE looks promising and must have a chance here under William Buick.
The daughter of Dubai overcame greenness to make a winning debut at this track and the fact she went off odds-on suggests connections think she is pretty good.
14.40 York – Lordship (each-way)
ITV also go to York for this handicap over 1m6f. LORDSHIP was never placed to challenge at Haydock last time and I hope he has an each-way chance here for William Haggas and Adam Farragher who takes off a useful 3lb.
Prior to Haydock Lordship had run well when fourth at York and scoring at Haydock and while he’s 9lb higher now than for the success I’m confident there is still more to come.
15.00 Newmarket – Chindit
The Group 2 Challenge Stakes over 7f. CHINDIT drops to 7f for the first time since August when he was a fine third at Newbury in the Hungerford. He’s been in pretty good form since, scoring twice and then third to a selection of this blog Mutasaabeq at this track.
The latter got the run of the race then and Pogo can give Chindit a good lead here for Richard Hannon and Ryan Moore.

15.15 York – Nellie Leylax
Here’s a valuable juvenile event over 7f. African Spirit looked good on debut and could be anything. But that horse lacks a bit of experience and NELLIE LEYLAX is going to be hard to kick out the frame at the very least.
The Tom Dascombe-trained runner is ridden by Pierre-Louis Jamin and I hope he will hit all the right notes after a couple of wins at Doncaster and Haydock and a not so good effort last time back at Doncaster. Nellie raced away from the main group that day which might not have been ideal. Will stay a mile in time.
15.35 Newmarket – Denmark (each-way)
Here’s a handicap over 1m4f. DENMARK wasn’t up to the St Leger last time but prior to that had run well in handicaps off a mark of 97 at York and 102 at Haydock. He remains on 102 here but the drop back in trip might be the making of him for Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien. An each-way shout in a tough heat.
15.50 York – Millebosc (each-way)
A handicap over 1m. This is hard! MILLEBOSC is surely going to score soon even if he’s not the horse who once had the talent to finish third in the French Derby! The recent Haydock second is up 4lb for the defeat to Sparks Fly which seems harsh. That said, if he put it all together I’d say he has masses in hand so an each-way selection under Cieren Fallon for William Haggas.
16.10 Newmarket – See The Fire (each-way)
The feature of the day in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile for youngsters. SEE THE FIRE might surprise a few here for Oisin Murphy and Andrew Balding.
She’s worth a few quid each-way after chasing home Darnation at Doncaster where she was slightly hampered inside the final furlong and drifted left under pressure. The daughter of Sea the Stars is capable of more improvement against more obvious challengers.
