13:50 Newmarket – At Vimeiro

A cracking weekend on ITV gets under way here with the Group 2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes for juveniles over one mile. Lots of these are open to improvement and while Capulet might easily win I want to look elsewhere.

I’m going to take a chance with AT VIMEIRO who has no chance on form but who I am sure is a beast in the making. Jane Chapple-Hyam’s inmate gets Christophe Soumillon on top and made an eye-catching debut at Doncaster. He cost a fortune and I suspect is very good whatever happens here.

14:05 Chester – The Grand Visir (each-way)

ITV also show this handicap from Chester over an extended two miles and two furlongs. THE GRAND VISIR has finished second in the Chester Cup in his time but has been dropping down the handicaps for some time before being pumped up 4lb for his fourth in the Doncaster Cup.

He stayed on nicely there although the rise seems a bit harsh to me. He’ll be big odds so have a few quid on each-way for Ian Williams and Dougie Costello.

14:25 Newmarket – Relief Rally

Up in class here for the Group 1 Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes for two-year-old fillies over six furlongs. RELIEF RALLY has been terrific all season for William Haggas and Tom Marquand and is very unlucky not to be undefeated after failing just to get up in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

That effort, like most of her early runs, suggested six furlongs was going to be no problem as was proved in the Lowther at York. Hard to beat again.

14:40 Haydock – Proverb

ITV have one to bring us from Haydock in this handicap over five furlongs. PROVERB was a real eye-catcher up at York when behind Manila Scouse and I suspect he will reverse that form.

To do so he will need a slightly better start and position through the race, but he’s clearly well handicapped and has a huge chance for George Boughey and Oisin Orr.

15:00 Newmarket – Vandeek

Another Group 1 in the Juddmonte Middle Park for two-year-old colts over six furlongs. I have always loved VANDEEK and stick with him for Simon and Ed Crisford and James Doyle who gets the ride with Andrea Atzeni now in third.

The son of Havana Grey looked good in the Richmond at Glorious Goodwood and even better in the Group 1 Morny last time. Looks a terrific prospect and will stay at least seven furlongs in time.

15:40 Newmarket – Greek Order

The big betting race of the day is the Cambridgeshire over one mile and one furlong. Many will laugh at me for this – but I believe GREEK ORDER will bolt up for Harry and Roger Charlton so I’m all over him.

The Charltons have done it before with short priced horses in this event, namely Cap Juluca and even more so with Blue Monday who returned at 5-1. Greek Order is almost certainly a Group horse and comes in here off a mark of 95 after a facile success at Newbury from an animal who has bolted up since.

Obviously he might be drawn on the wrong side in stall 25, but that’s something I’ll leave Oisin Murphy to sort out.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
