13:15 Ayr – Revich

REVICH was in a decent race at Sandown when fourth behind Dutch Decoy, Ouzo and Perotto. They’re all boosting the form fairly well and he goes on the ground.

13:30 Newbury – Nymphadora

When I priced this race originally I really liked Sense Of Duty but the long lay-off bothers me. She mightn’t be 100 per cent peak fitness so could improve for this run. Her stablemate NYMPHADORA for the same owner does appeal though. She likes a bit of cut in the ground and is dropping down in grade, having won at Listed level and was only beaten four and a half lengths when ninth last time in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York. The sprint division is weak so I would prefer to side with something dropping down in class than something looking to prove themselves at this level.

13:50 Ayr – Royal Rhyme

I’m was keen to take on My Prospero (now a non runner) as although he’s dropping in class, he keeps finding a way to lose.  I prefer to side with one on an upward curve rather than siding with one dropping way down the grades, trying to get his career back on track. The softer ground is key for ROYAL RHYME and he’ll probably get it. He won at Thirsk on his debut on soft and he then stepped up to 10f at Newmarket and won on soft ground again. He was beaten at Newbury on good ground and won at Goodwood last time out on soft ground. You can see the trend!

14:05 Newbury – Sea King

SEA KING is my very tentative selection in what is a muddling and weak enough race. He’s ground versatile and is on a mark where he can be competitive. He’ll be ridden up towards the front and the stats for front runners these days are mind blowing. He’s hard to peg back and could get it all his own way at the head of affairs.

14:25 Ayr – Aplomb

APLOMB is drawn low and was really good on his last two runs. He’s running off the same mark of 81 and I’m hoping he can go one better and get his head in front. It’s going to be an extremely strong pace and he is usually ridden a bit off the lead. Hopefully, he can pick up the pieces late on.

14:40 Newbury – Mustazeed

I originally wanted to be with Balance Play but he’ll carry a lot of weight for a three-year-old and MUSTAZEED jumped off the page at me. He’s only had three runs this season and he’s been off since mid July. At this stage of the season, those runners that are high in the handicap or ‘over the top’ becasue they’ve had hard seasons is a concern. Mustazeed is lightly-raced and has potential for improvement still. He’s won twice over course and distance and he was only beaten last time out because of the better ground. On his last run here he gave 5lbs to Sweet Reward and that one is now rated 12lbs higher, so that run is reading well.

15:00 Ayr – Raqiya

RAQIYA has been in my tracker since her debut run. She was out the back and made up huge ground towards the end of the race while posting a really good sectional time. She then won at Salisbury and was very impressive last time out at Haydock. It’s about time she stepped into Stakes company but the Owen Burrows stable like to bring them along at their own pace. She’s run in three novices now and I’m excited to see her in Group company now. She has a promising future and will more than likely be a Group 1 filly in time.

15:35 Ayr – Fast Response

FAST RESPONSE has been running really well in Stakes races all season and going very close without winning. All of her best form is on soft ground as she’s by Fast Company. Dropping down to a handicap, albeit a competitive one like the Ayr Gold Cup, along with her soft ground form is enough for me to take a chance on her. She has a lot of weight for a filly, but Brandon Wilkie is claiming 7lbs off her.
