13:15 Ayr – Stormbuster (each way)
Stormbuster has been running in much tougher Group race company and now makes a welcome return into handicap company. He looks to have the perfect set up with plenty of pace to run at and off mark of 89, he’s certainly well treated.
13:30 Newbury – Sense of Duty
If Sense of Duty is going to make the Ascot Champion Sprint in October, she really needs to be winning on her return from 455 days off. The soft conditions are an unknown for her but the William Haggas team doesn’t make many mistakes.
13:50 Ayr – Luckin Brew
We’ve not seen Luckin Brew for some 341 days, but her two-year-old form holds up very well with the offer of plenty more to come. Royal Rhyme looks the rapid improver and will be head of the market with My Prospero not running, but Luckin Brew is going to surprise a few. The Ralph Beckett team wouldn’t send her all the way to Scotland without being fit for her return.
14:05 Newbury – Oneforthegutter
Oneforthegutter put up a massive performance in the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster when going down by a short head to Legendary Day. He came from well back in the field but stayed on strongly in the closing stages. Stamina is his main asset and that will be tested to the full around Newbury if the forecast rain arrives. The quick return to action holds no fears for him either.

14:25 Ayr – Gulliver
Gulliver did us a favour last time when bolting up underneath Ben Curtis and let’s hope he can return in that sort of form when switching back onto the turf. He is still very well handicapped on a mark of just 89 and he should get a bit of pace to run at from his high stall draw of 22. He’s drawn near Punchbowl Flyer who loves to pop along in front, so can track him.
14:40 Newbury – Le Mans
Le Mans is the young runner in this line-up against a bunch of handicappers who are either coming back down the handicap, or searching to find their old form. Le Mans was well on top in the closing stages last time at Salisbury just 16 days ago and brings in a very tidy profile. She carries a featherweight of 8st 4lbs with Sam Hitchcott booked.
15:00 Ayr – Great Generation
Lots of improvers now try their hand in deeper company and we have a cracking renewal of the Firth Of Clyde. Great Generation was not fully extended to beat a few highly-regarded types at Chester on her second try and she’s now switching back to a straight track and will hold no fears. Having won at Haydock on her debut, Stefano Cherchi gets an opportunity to secure his biggest winner.
15:15 Newbury – Haatem
Haatem has already proven himself under these conditions when winning the Group 2 vintage at the Glorious Goodwood meeting and that form has already been boosted since. He didn’t seem to handle the much quicker conditions at York last time and a return to an easier surface will see him in a much better light. He’s been overlooked in the early markets but that could be because he’s carrying the extra 3lbs for his Group 2 success.
15:35 Ayr – Montassib (each-way)
Montassib has not tried 6f since his racecourse debut and that was a winning performance. Although he has made steady progression all the way up into a solid triple-digit performer, it’s interesting that William Haggas and Co. decided to throw him back in the sprint division. The squad couldn’t be any hotter right now too. The fact that this race is normally won by a horse with proven stamina bodes well for his chances at a big each-way price.
