14:15 – Newmarket – Heredia (each way)

ITV Saturday gets under way here with a Listed contest over 6f. It’s interesting HEREDIA starts over 6f which at face value will be short enough. That said, she will be finishing off strongly if anywhere near her best and looked a right prospect when landing the Sandringham at Royal Ascot in 2022. Her last two runs have been desperate, but I hope she comes back in decent shape and I’ll have a few quid on each-way with Sean Levey doing the steering two days before his wedding!

14:50 – Newmarket – Silver Samurai (each-way)

A handicap over 6f. Wide open. SILVER SAMURAI is not a well handicapped horse but he still have the ability to make a splash here for Marco Botti and Danny Muscutt. My hope had a spin at Kempton the other day and that should have put him spot on for this. A third at York last season showed what he can do in big field handicaps and he also has a fair run in the Wokingham to his name. Has been to Newmarket a few times but hasn’t run well here to date so a risk taken there each-way.

15:05 – Goodwood – Stay Well (each way)

ITV also go to Goodwood Saturday for this handicap over 1m2f. An each-way shout here with STAY WELL for the classy Hughie Morrison stable that is in good shape and Richard Kingscote. My hope has run fairly consistently since winning at Kempton in October of 2021 and I still feel a mark of 96 is workable. Stays well.

15:25 – Newmarket – Majestic (each way)

Now a heritage handicap over 1m1f. MAJESTIC is back at the scene of his Cambridgeshire success and must have an each-way chance for George Bass and Jack Channon who is in great form. The improving gelding returned with a fine fourth at Doncaster in the Lincoln – form working out well – and while this ground might be faster than ideal he’s getting his act together and turning into a very useful performer.

15:40 – Thirsk – Pisanello (each way)

ITV also show one from Thirsk in the Hunt Cup over 1m where an inside draw can often be a big advantage. Not a typical Hunt Cup as no runner from a big southern yard like Sir Michael Stoute. PISONELLO can be slow away but has a good run at this track to his name in July of last year when third in a strong event. That was off a rating of 80 and he’s on 82 here so it won’t be easy but and each-way chance for Mark Winn who takes off a useful 5lb and David O’Meara.

16:00 – Newmarket – Twilight Calls

Up in class here for the Group 3 Palace House over 5f. Not a vintage renewal. TWILIGHT CALLS must be hard to beat if right on his return for Henry Candy and Ryan Moore. He was last seen chasing home Nature Strip in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot and that is easily the best form on offer. Was only fifth in this last year in a race where Existent was runner-up. That said, hard to beat if at his best.

16:40 – Newmarket – Silver Knott (each way)

A Classic big race of the day in the 2000 Guineas over 1m. So hard to know what to do here with Little Big Bear back from injury and Auguste Rodin likely to be suited by further. I’ll chance an each-way bet on SILVER KNOTT, who was sent off at 8-13 to beat Chaldean in the Champagne at Doncaster last season. He hated the soft ground that day but showed what he can do when an unlucky second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Keeneland. My selection stays and has plenty of ability. Only time will tell if he’s good enough or ready enough first time out for Charlie Appleby and William Buick.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
