It was great to see Colm Murphy back in the winners enclosure at Cheltenham with Impervious and I’m hoping he can land this opening maiden hurdle with THE LOVELY MAN. The son of Mastercraftsman is having his third career start following two decent runs in juvenile hurdles this season. His fourth-placed effort on debut behind subsequent Fred Winter winner Jazzy Matty is solid form before coming fifth to Byker (second in the Boodles) here at the end of January. It’s a big field and competitive race with several runners for J.P McManus, but hopefully this horse has enough experience and ability to score.
Henry de Bromhead’s team remain in good form and it might be worth having a punt on POTTERS PARTY to win this 2-mile 5-furlong maiden hurdle under Rachael Blackmore. The son of Mahler has some nice pieces of form in the book, having finish second to dual bumper winter Stellar Story in a Castlelands point-to-point last year. He was only a few lengths behind Corbetts Cross when third in a Clonmel maiden hurdle won by Landrake last November and has enough experience now following his most recent effort when fourth at Thurles last month.
Padraig Roche has an excellent 67% strike-rate in Limerick bumpers with TWO OF US KNOW NOW looking an interesting each-way bet on debut. The daughter of Flemensfirth has a nice pedigree, being a full sister to Slip Of The Tongue who won on debut over hurdles for the yard in 2021. Her dam, Female was trained by Christy Roche and won a bumper on debut and is a half sister to Direct Route. It’s a lovely page going back years for the Roche family, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she goes very close in this Limerick finale under Harry Swan.
This closing bumper at Naas looks a good content with many top owners and trainers represented with plenty of winners likely to follow down the line. My eye is drawn towards MAHON’S WAY on debut for Henry de Bromhead having won a Lisronagh point-to-point for Denis Hogan last November. The son of Walk In the Park sold shortly afterwards for £360,000 and now runs in the colours of the Cheveley Park Stud. There’s a touch of class in his pedigree with his dam, Allys Bubble a half-sister to Champange Fever, so it would be no surprise to see him being competitive amongst this field and score on his rules debut.
