Shantou Moon won in pretty good style when upped to 2m6f last month and could easily have more to offer over 3m but the suggestion is PARAMARIBO, who was placed off today’s mark on soft ground on his recent handicap debut and might be seen to significantly better effect on the forecast quicker surface today. Faithfulflyer has done well since switched to handicaps and is next on the list.
Several have possibilities in quite an open race. The suggestion is LIMERICK LEADER who returns to hurdles off a handy mark and gained his novice win at around this time last year. Dedanser, who also won last spring, is second choice. Mount South remains a maiden but he is respected, while Something Golden, Having A Barney and Irish raider Penthouse Poppet also have possibilities.
On the back of his good second at Punchestown, HERCULANEUM could well go one better and open his account. Perfect Arch, who shaped better than the bare result in that race, is the suggested second choice as he may well improve granted an error-free round. Last-time-out scorers Zwicky and Euchan Falls are respected, while Smart Boyo ties in closely with the latter and can’t be dismissed.
He didn’t fire last time and still needs to prove he’s effective on forecast good ground but FUTURE BENEFITS made a pleasing start to his chasing career in the autumn and could still have more improvement to come. He gets the vote but Bitasweetsymphony could be a tough nut to crack if he sees out today’s trip, while Without Conviction also has possibilities.
Bellaney Lord is very interesting if judged on his best couple of efforts but he weakened out of contention in the straight here recently and it’s hard to know what to expect from him today. A safer option is bumper winner KINGSTON BRIDGE, who shaped with quite a bit more promise than his eventual 18l defeat might suggest when third on last month’s hurdling debut at Kelso. Thistle Ask and Whitehaven also enter the equation.
Bridget Breeze showed more than enough in bumpers to suggest she can make her mark over hurdles in the near future but this will probably be fought out by the two hat-trick seekers at the top of the racecard. It’s not easy to split them but Toby Wynne’s useful 5lb claim may give WINDTOTHELIGHTNING an edge over Ruby Island.
Champ De Gane is still lightly raced over fences and the form of last month’s C&D second was very well advertised by the winner at Sandown on Tuesday but preference is for OUT ON THE TEAR (nap), who also ran well behind a progressive rival on his latest outing and has slipped to a good mark.
