Having gone very close on his hurdle debut in France last March, this looks a good opportunity for ILIKO D’OLIVATE to make a winning start for Paul Nicholls. His stablemate Pleasant Man was talented on the Flat and could be the chief threat, ahead of hurdling newcomer Way Out.

Given that he has the best chance on chase form and won over hurdles on this card 12 months ago, CAP DU MATHAN (NAP) holds particularly strong claims. Call Of The Wild (second choice) should go well granted a clear round, Earth Company may benefit from this return to Taunton and Robin’s Dream is interesting on his return to action.
13:55 – Rare Middleton
Ex-Irish RARE MIDDLETON brings plenty of potential to hurdles and gets a hefty age allowance so looks a likely winner on his debut for Paul Nicholls. Parc D’Amour, judged on his first two starts, looks the biggest danger. Bascule and Uncle Arthur are still open to improvement in this sphere.
14:30 – Afadil
As in the first division, the vote goes to an unexposed Flat winner who has joined Paul Nicholls, namely AFADIL who is described as a “lovely prospect” by his new trainer. The bumper/hurdles form on offer is largely modest but several runners look open to improvement, notably Danton, Mammies Boy and Atlantic Fleet (listed in order of preference).
15:00 – Forever William
Lady Adare is unbeaten but she’ll need to be on her game to defy this mark on her handicap debut, which might be asking a lot after so long off the track. Sayadam is feared but FOREVER WILLIAM ran well on his comeback and 2m5f perhaps stretched him around Cheltenham next time.

Perhaps the most interesting runner is the handicap debutante TINTERN ABBEY, a bumper winner who has shaped nicely in both her maiden hurdles. Eventful still looks on a good mark and she is feared most. Born To Please ran well behind an improver at Leicester and is another to consider.
16:10 – Tout Est Permis
The answer might be TOUT EST PERMIS, who lost his way for Gigginstown but it would be no surprise should Archie Watson win more races with him. Others are of interest but Envious Editor has achieved more than most during the past 12 months and he’s the standout danger.
