Despite his record of 0-6, SILENCER sets a high standard having run well in some warm races and this looks an excellent opportunity for him to get off the mark. Squealer has also shown ability in both starts including in Listed company. He looks best of the others.
Kevin Ryan has won this race three times in the last five years and fields a couple of solid candidates in Aleezdancer and Fast And Loose. They are worthy of respect, as are the progressive Azure Blue (second choice), Lucky Man and Aphelios. However, the consistent PINK CRYSTAL (nap) makes plenty of appeal having looked unlucky not to go even closer when second of 17 over 5f here last month. The return to this trip can only be in her favour.
The admirable GALE FORCE MAYA, who boasts the best form and has an excellent record over C&D, is the one to beat. Today’s drop back to 6f is an interesting move for Primo Bacio and she may provide the sternest resistance, with Ebro River and the thriving Prisoner’s Dilemma also respected. Plenty of rain would put mudlark Ventura Diamond firmly in the mix.
Following excellent runs over C&D on his last two outings, DARE TO HOPE has a rock-solid profile and looks ready to strike again. The main danger may prove to be Signora Camacho who bids for a hat-trick. Family Ties faces an easier assignment than of late and has to be respected, while Maggie’s Tern and Secret Angel may not have reached their limit.
Given his rich current vein of form Mukha Magic has to go on anyone’s shortlist and is much respected, while Dance To Paris is interesting from the same mark as when successful over C&D last summer. However, THEPREDICTOR looks to have plenty more to offer as a stayer having got off the mark at Thirsk last time. This race has gone to a 3yo twice in the past three years.
Tim Easterby runs three and two of them, Forgivable and Highwaygrey (second choice), have something to recommend them, while the latter’s Ayr victim Havana Party is another with claims. Fourth Time Lucky may improve for the longer trip, but the vote goes to SAMUEL SPADE who won in fine style when upped to this trip at Haydock last month and may have further improvement in him.

A wide-open sprint. The 5f handicap at Chester two weeks ago won by Riversway looks a key piece of form. Now bidding for a hat-trick, the winner should again go well, but preference is for FRISKY who met all sorts of trouble in running yet still managed to finish fourth. Simon Pearce’s filly has run well for Fred Larson in the past and can make amends. Catch Cunningham, who had every chance when third that day, has each-way claims once more, while the fifth-placed Mytilda could improve for her first run for over a year. Texas Man and Riversway’s stablemate Sacred Jewel complete the shortlist.
