13:50 – Lord Protector
This is the first race in Paddy’s Pick 5 competition on Friday and I’m siding with Lord Protector for Rob Hornby and Ralph Beckett, who has a great record at York in Handicaps. There’s a small question mark over the trip but his pedigree suggests he’ll stay. He’s well handicapped off a mark of 97 so I like him each way.

14:25 – Stradivarius
Trueshan could well pull out if the rain doesn’t come (and it doesn’t look likely) so I’m with Stradivarius. He’s six from six at York and I can’t really see him getting beat.

I really like this race and I’m on Clearpoint for Richard Fahey, with Oisin James Orr on board. I’m not put off by him stepping up in grade and Richard has been quite bullish about him, which caught my eye!
15:35 – Flotus
I’m keen to take on Royal Aclaim and The Platinum Queen at their current prices – and I’m with Flotus. She’s won at the track and she’s drawn low. 5f around York might be too sharp for Highfield Princess but I don’t see Flotus having any problems. She could bounce out and might not be catchable!

16:10 – The Flying Ginger
I’m taking a chance on The Flying Ginger, who won this race last year. Her form this year looks poor but she needed a couple of runs to get going. However, her form looked similar last year before she bolted up. She’s a huge price and she’s 4lbs lower than last year.
