DELOREAN again ran well when third in a novice event at Newcastle last time, passing the post only two and a quarter lengths behind the winner and looking unlucky not to finish closer still having been squeezed out by the first two late on. He now makes the switch to handicaps and could be one to follow for his top yard. A BHA mark of 78 already looks a good starting point to life in this sphere and the step up to a mile is likely to unlock more improvement.
ELECTRICAL STORM was returning from 18 months on the sidelines when showing improved form to get off the mark at York in June, drawing clear in the final two furlongs to win readily by two and a half lengths. He then ran at least as well in defeat from a 9-lb higher mark when third at Sandown last time, arguably deserving extra credit having raced closer than ideal to the strong gallop. He can race from the same mark today and seems sure to go well again, with further progress also not out of the question (still low mileage).
There’s two Haydock races featured in Paddy’s Pick 5 races on Saturday, and this Group 3 race over 1m2f is the first of them.GROCER JACK produced a career best when winning a listed contest at Newbury three weeks ago, making all to win by nine lengths in totally dominant fashion. That was a very smart performance and a repeat of that form will give him every chance of following up in this Group 3. For context, he is 5-lb clear of Intellogent on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings and there could be more to come from him after just three starts for William Haggas (formerly trained in Germany by Waldemar Hickst).
Wer’re two for two in Saturday’s Paddy’s Pick 5 races, as this 1m listed meet also features.OSCULA is standing up very well to a busy campaign and she proved at least as good as ever when gaining a deserved success in the Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood 10 days ago, showing a really willing attitude to get the verdict by a head. This will be no easy task under a Group 3 penalty, but she appears to have a class edge over her rivals now back at listed level and there is no reason why she shouldn’t continue to give a good account.

GLITTERING CHOICE proved a disappointment at Hamilton last time, but she has been given a break since and it could be worth giving her another chance to confirm the promise of her previous run at Leicester. That was her first start in a handicap after eight months off and she showed improved form to fill the runner-up spot, staying on strongly to pass the post just a neck behind a progressive sort. She pulled clear of the rest and that effort suggests a BHA mark of 67 is unlikely to prove beyond her somewhere down the line.
WHITEBEAM has won her last two starts at Newbury, showing useful form in the process. The official winning margin was just a short head last time, but that race was run at just a steady gallop which possibly didn’t see her to best effect. She is likely to have a bigger effort in the locker under the right circumstances and it will be interesting to see what she can do today in her hat-trick bid. She is certainly on a fair-looking mark for her handicap debut.
DARK SWANSONG shaped better than the bare result when sixth at Lingfield last time, doing well to be beaten only two and a quarter lengths having been hampered over two furlongs out. He certainly showed enough to suggest he is on a good mark and the application of first-time blinkers (replacing cheekpieces) could give him the extra edge he needs to get his head back in front for the Clive Cox/Adam Kirby combination.
