Lillie Langtry Stakes runners

Forbearance

Trainer: Mrs J. Harrington Jockey: Hollie Doyle Age: 5 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 8

Useful mare who won 4 times last season, notably listed race at York and Group 3 at Newmarket. Yet to hit those levels so far this season, though latest fifth of 12 to Rosscarbery in Stanerra Stakes at Leopardstown was at least a step back in the right direction.

Glenartney

Trainer: Ed Walker Jockey: Ross Coakley Age: 4 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 5

All the better for return when third in York Group 3 in May, likely to have finished in front of Urban Artist but for being hampered. Confirmed that improvement when winning listed race at Pontefract 6 weeks ago, pulling clear with the runner-up. Return to this trip will suit and worth a shot.

****

Sea La Rosa

Trainer: William Haggas Jockey: Tom Marquand Age: 4 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 2

Steadily progressive last season, successful 4 times from 7 starts, and picked up where she left off when winning Group 3 at Haydock on return despite pulling hard. Smart form when second to the potentially high-class Free Wind in Lancashire Oaks there next time. Should stay and form pick.

****

Urban Artist

Trainer: Hughie Morrison Jockey: Jason Hart Age: 7 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 7

Useful mare who ran very close to her best after 7 months off when 1¼ lengths second of 6 in Bronte Cup at York (13.8f, good to soft) in May. Trip too far in Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot since and has a good record here, though fast ground wouldn’t be ideal.

***

Viola

Trainer: James Fanshawe Jockey: Daniel Muscutt Age: 5 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 1

Much improved as a 4-y-o last season, showing useful form to win 3 handicaps. Excuses at Lingfield on return before good second to Sea La Rosa in Group 3 at Haydock. Not so good in listed race at Newmarket 2 weeks ago, however.

***

Yesyes

Trainer: Ralph Beckett Jockey: Rob Hornby Age: 4 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 3

Camelot filly who 3 of first 4 starts, notably 14.4f listed race at Chester last summer. Better form in defeat upped in class since, third in Park Hill at Doncaster before beaten over 5 lengths in Prix de Royallieu at Longchamp when last seen in October. Not taken lightly on belated return.

****

Emily Dickinson

Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Jockey: Ryan Moore Age: 3 Weight: 8st 10lbs Draw: 4

Naas maiden winner on third start. Excellent short-head second in Group 3 at Leopardstown (14f, good, 13/2) earlier this month, suited by increase in trip. Shaped as if still in good form when fourth in Irish Oaks 9 days later and return to this trip will suit. Probably has more to offer still.

*****

Typewriter

Trainer: Andrew Balding Jockey: David Probert Age: 3 Weight: 8st 10lbs Draw: 6

Twice a winner Nottingham at 2 yrs and came on plenty for reappearance when third in Cheshire Oaks. Seemed outclassed when stepped up to this level in Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot next time.

Lillie Langtry Stakes tips

Timeform: EMILY DICKINSON shaped as if still in good form when fourth in the Irish Oaks 2 weeks ago, the drop back in trip clearly against her, and she looks set for a big run back down in class and back up in distance. Sea La Rosa showed smart form when runner-up in the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock and is an obvious threat, while Glenartney shouldn’t be underestimated at this higher level.
