14:30 – Baaeed

It looks as if the opener of the five-day Festival will be exactly the same as the Royal procession! This should be no more than a glorified gallop for the world’s best horse, BAAEED.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

15:05 – Paddy’s Day

Charlie Hills’ runner does have to find quite a bit on official ratings but he was pretty impressive when winning on his racecourse debut at Windsor last time. A few of these are running on quick ground for the first time but that will hold no fears for PADDY’S DAY. He may come up a little short against the absolute top-notcher but at the prices he looks worth an each way play.

15:40 – Golden Pal

The American speedster will be trying to blow a hole in the wind from the get go and can hopefully steal an advantage throughout the first five or six first strides. GOLDEN PAL was only just nailed at this course as a juvenile and bids for compensation now as a four-year-old. It will have been a long time coming to get that victory on the board this side of the pond.

16:20 – Coroebus

The Newmarket 2,000 Guineas winner COROEBUS should be suited to the mile ‘on the turn’ perfectly and has a good inside stall position in box two. He looks on ratings to be able to underperform slightly and still win. The slight concern is that the yard are not exactly flying at the moment like they were in the early part of the season. He still should prove too good but I will have a little saver each-way at a massive price on the Ballydoyle trained Aikhal on seasonal debut, having looked throughout last season that he was always going to make a better three-year-old.

17:00 –  Rock Eagle

Ralph Beckett’s ROCK EAGLE Will be the best looker in the prelims and finally gets a test that is in keeping with his pedigree. His mother is a half sister to the top notch stater Greyshot who would have relished this 2m 4f distance. Wille Mullins’ Bring On The Night will have the bookies running for cover with Ryan Moore booked but Rock Eagle is flying well under the radar.

17:35 – Tasman Bay

The four-year-old has some top-class form last season over a variety of distances and was second at this venue over a quarter mile further behind Group 1 winner, Alenquer. Baaeed & Dubai Honour proved too strong afterwards and a drop-down in grade can see TASMAN BAY grace the winners’ enclosure with James McDonald on board.

18:10 – Cleveland

CLEVELAND the Chester Cup winner has only been nudged up 5lb for his comprehensive success on just his second start after nearly two years off the track. Dropping back down in distance holds no fears for this classy performer who has some fancy entries down the line and could well make up into a Melbourne Cup fancy.
