Baaeed is a very strong odds-on favourite for the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on Saturday and is 7lbs+ clear of the rest of the field on ratings. As a result, the extra markets are a place where we can hope to swing the odds in our favour a little more.

‘Betting Without’ market

REAL WORLD disappointed on his last two starts in Saudi Arabia and in Meydan, but both those starts were on dirt and he clearly didn’t handle the surface. He was slowly into stride and many horses can‘t handle the kick-back on the dirt. On ratings, Real World comes out second best on a rating of 118 and he is five from five in races on turf.

He was very progressive last season, winning the Royal Hunt Cup in a canter off a mark of 94, before winning at Listed and Group 3 level. He finished the season winning at Longchamp in the Group 2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein, when turning over The Revenant on soft ground. He can give us a return in the ‘betting without’ Baaeed market.

That was an excellent effort and showed that he is versatile with regards to ground, as he had won on fast ground at Ascot. He is also a course winner at Newbury, so he has plenty of positives and looks a bit of value to hit the front three. The same argument goes for the betting without market.

We really don’t know how far Real World can progress. That win in Longchamp suggests he has Group 1 potential and Real World looks the most likely to chase home Baaeed in my opinion.

To be Placed in the first 3 Market

MOTHER EARTH is a big danger and she should improve plenty for her reappearance win at the Curragh, where she was very weak in the betting suggesting she needed the run. She was very consistent last season, winning the 1,000 Guineas and Group 1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville and ran really well in numerous other Group 1’s including in Sha Tin.

She looks a decent price in Paddy’s to place in the first 3 market.
