The most interesting one of these is Star Of Lady M. She’s won both her starts to date, which came on soft and heavy ground so she’s got a bit to prove on a quicker surface but looking at her I don’t think she’ll have a massive problem. Stall 2 is ideal as well. Ocean Cloud is the main danger on paper but she’s not proven on turf.
Eritage makes a bit of appeal. He’s a course-and-distance winner and is ideally suited by the conditions at Newton Abbot and that might be the key here. He ran in this last year when it was a much deeper contest and finished fourth.
Live In The Dream is the obvious one to make all the running here. He ran a really good race here last year finishing fourth, he made the running from a bad draw before weakening in the final furlong to finish fourth. You could say that he’s vulnerable in a similar race on soft ground having gone up in the weights but he won by nearly 4l at Sandown. He could have gone up a stone or more for that. You couldn’t possibly call him a short runner for the he way he powered away from his opposition in the final furlong so he looks a stronger horse this year. He’ll take plenty of beating with Ryan Moore on board.
Above The Curve was really impressive at Leopardstown and a couple of those in behind have won since. She did that really easily and was travelling strongly from a wide draw. It was eye-catching. When Shane Crosse asked the question she went and put it to bed easily. She’s going to progress and will do better for the extra furlong.
I couldn’t be against New London as Changingoftheguard doesn’t look good enough. Your only concern would be that he’s been impressive at Newmarket on the Rowley Mile and that Chester’s a very different track.
Pocket The Profit improved a hell of a lot last season and he’s all the way up to a mark of 89 now. He wasn’t well suited by the nature of his last race when fourth at Newmarket and he’ll be a lot happier back on a flat track and the more rain that falls the better. It’s a big positive that he’s got the hood off for the first time as the time has come to use all his keenness. If it doesn’t rain, I’d go cool on him.
