Five races from Newbury and three from Warwick make up ITV’s racing program for Saturday. We may have a smallish field for some of the graded races but we also have a couple of big-field handicaps to get stuck into.
13:15 Newbury – Bravemansgame
I know a lot has been made of the Paul Nicholls’ team form at this time of the year so Bravesmansgame may even drift to a very workable price with all the stable doubts.
Pats Fancy is really interesting as the horse he beat at Chepstow won very nicely at Cheltenham. If Bravemansgame is to be beaten, he will be the one to do it.

13:50 Newbury – Whatsupwithyou
Polish won this race last year off the same mark. He has to be of interest in this. Risk and Roll bounded back to form with an easy success at Huntingdon, but a10lb penalty for that win makes life tough.
Whatsupwithyou did win a point-to-point over three miles, but never struck me as an out-and-out stayer. However, in a small field on this flat track he may well get away with it. He has dropped to a very workable mark and he gets the nod.
14:25 Newbury – Clan des Obeaux
He was a little unlucky in the King George VI Chase at Kempton over Christmas. He got beaten in this race last year too, but when the cheekpieces went on for Aintree they really did the job and he wears them today. The stable form of Paul Nicholls is a worry though for Clan des Obeaux but he is the one to beat if anywhere near his best. .
Royal Pagaille needs a stamina test to bring out the best in him and I worry this drying ground will not suit him. If it was to get soft underfoot, he would enter calculations.
Imperial Aura has to overcome a rough 14 months when he has been out of form. He is capable on his day though.
15:00 Newbury – Sceau Royal
Sceau Royal won this contest last year before finishing a very unlucky fifth in the Queen Mother at the festival. The drying ground is a positive and he is definitely the one to beat.

15:35 Newbury – I Like To Move It (Each way)
Knappers Hill was unbeaten as a bumper horse and won the Grade 2 contest at Aintree. He has not been brilliant jumping so far, but in a messy race he finished third to Jonbon and jumped pretty well apart from the second last.
I Like To Move It is probably better judged on his win at Cheltenham beating Tritonic than when finishing behind Knappers Hill at Ascot. Nigel Twiston Davies has won this in the past and novices have a very good record in this race recent years.
Jetoile is the key to this race. If he doesn’t make the running there will be a lot of squealing going on behind as lots of these can be keen and want to get on with things. It would not be a surprise to see last year’s first and second in the shake-up again as Fifty Ball runs off the same mark as 12 months ago, while the winner then, Soaring Glory has to carry 14lb more.
Bloomfield Burg has looked a weak finisher when beaten twice. He is a very strong traveller in his races, it’s just a case of what he finds off the bridle in the drive for the post. First Street is very interesting if they go fast enough for him to relax as he is talented.
13:35 Warwick – Indefatigable
He won very nicely over 2m 4f at Newbury and got a bump up the weights, but Lucy Turner’s 7lb claim will offset some of that. Fanion D’estruval finished fourth in the Grade 1 Clarence House Chase at the track last year behind First Flow. This should set up nicely for him.

14:05 Warwick – Third Time Lucki
A small but select field and the track is the key here. An easy two miles is just what Third Time Lucki needs. I know he finished behind Edwardstone at Sandown but I feel with Brave Seasca to give him a lead, he can get the better of Edwardstone. While Alan King’s horse stayed on really well at Sandown, the Skelton horse could have too much pace today.
There was very little between them over hurdles and the winning of this could just come down to one poor jump at these fences.
15:15 Warwick – Celebre D’Allen
Celebre D’Allen has schooled well for Team Hobbs and won twice for them having been trained in France by Louisa Carberry previously. He was impressive at Haydock and that race has worked out form wise.
