12:35 – Insomnia
INSOMNIA was clearly held in high regard by connections prior to his winning debut over seven furlongs at this course in March last year, as he held an entry in the 2000 Guineas and was well found in the market. He found the Greenham coming too soon in his development on his next start, but ran a cracker on his return from eight months off when third on handicap debut at Southwell last month. That was also his first start since a gelding operation and he seems sure to come on for it, so he makes plenty of appeal here. The bang-in-form Starry Eyes, who is debuting for a new yard, looks the obvious danger.
13.05 – El Hombre
EL HOMBRE is on a lengthy losing run, his last win coming in March 2020 for Keith Dalgleish, but he is now 16 lb lower in the weights, and left the impression he turn may be near when a good second at Wolverhampton last week. He shaped like the best horse at the weights on that occasion, conceding first run to the winner and running out of time. The return to six furlongs will be in his favour and his claims look solid. Deputise, who boasts a similar profile to the selection, and low-mileage Mobarhin can pose the chief threats.

13:35 – Magical Dias
MAGICAL DIAS produced a promising first effort when finishing third over a mile at this course in November and showed plenty of speed when runner-up over seven furlongs at Wolverhampton last month. That was a steadily-run race and he was only just edged out by a next-time-out winner, so the form looks solid, and Magical Dias should appreciate another drop in trip now. Income, who only just failed to land the odds at Wolverhampton last week, looks the obvious threat.
14:05 – Strong Power
STRONG POWER is being kept busy at present, but he arrives in excellent heart having won his last two starts, and his claims to complete a hat-trick are compelling. He produced a clear career best when winning – from 14 lb out of the handicap – a useful contest over course and distance five days ago, perfectly placed to pick up the leaders who set an overly strong pace, and he looks thrown in under a double penalty now able to race from his correct mark. Strong Power also set a new course record that day and it will be disappointing if he doesn’t win again. Lothian can follow him home.

14:35 –Trevolli
Both TREVOLLI and Sophosc arrive in cracking form and look the pair to focus on. The former has won three of his last four starts, and he still appeared to have plenty in hand when scoring over course and distance on Saturday. He was well on top at the line on that occasion and should be able to defy a 5 lb penalty. Sophosc bolted up by six and a half lengths at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day, though, so it would be folly to dismiss his claims despite a rise in the weights.
15:05 – Rockfire
ROCKFIRE showed only modest form in his first three starts, but was well backed, and was much improved in first-time blinkers on handicap debut at Wolverhampton last month. He finished runner-up to an in-form type that day, and to some extent conceded first run, having to wait for a gap on the rail, and he looks more than capable of defying this mark. Bass Strait and Midgetonamission are a couple of others to consider.
15:35 – Virgo
VIRGO has a steadily progressive profile and, having shaped well when second at Newcastle last time, he’s fancied to go one better in first-time cheekpieces provided they go a reasonable pace, which seems likely. Recent course winner Semser is a danger on the back of a small rise in the weights and Noble Peace is considered having bounced back to form over course and distance last week.
