Bootlegger left the impression he had a bigger run in him when keeping on from well back to take second at Aintree four weeks ago and he looks a key contender, while Taste The Fear shouldn’t be written off on the back of one lesser effort and Geordie Des Champs is back down in class. It might be worth taking a punt on DEBESTYMAN though, with his Cheltenham second last autumn looking a solid piece of form. That came after a low-key seasonal reappearance and he may take a significant step forward from his recent return to action at Plumpton.

Bucko’s Boy still has potential as a hurdler and his antics at the start at Bangor were hopefully a one-off. He will be a danger to all if anywhere near his best, while Calvinist and Quick Draw also have something to recommend them. Novis Adventus needs a market check but THE KNOT IS TIED (nap) can be the answer. He followed his Fakenham romp with a perfectly serviceable effort at Aintree and today’s conditions should hold no terrors.

Confidence in CREATIVE INERTA is quite shaky, given that all four of his rivals are very well handicapped, but he posted a good effort when third at Exeter recently and is the one with by far the least to prove in this line-up. Soupy Soups hinted at a possible revival on his latest outing and, with new headgear tried today, he is feared most.
