12:50 – Ricky Langford

RICKY LANGFORD is very much a versatile and consistent performer for Philip Rothwell and should be involved at the business end of this competitive opener at Navan. The seven-year-old has been mixing his runs between hurdles and fences this season and won in impressive fashion in a handicap chase at Ballinrobe in September. He has subsequently been placed twice and will appreciate the drier ground conditions with James O’Sullivan back in the saddling and taking off a valuable 5Ibs.

    13:20 – Au Fleuron (NAP)

Pat Healy will never forget the 2019 running of this maiden hurdle when he luckily escaped a serious injury after Entoucas crashed into him after the winning post. Gordon Elliott claimed victory on that occasion with Thatsy and is likely to win this contest again with two leading contenders declared. Bust Or Bray Dee has fitness on his side but looks an out and out stayer and might warrant further in time.

Noel and Valerie Moran have an abundant of talent on both sides of the Irish sea this season and could have another nice horse on their hands with AU FLEURON having a first run for the Bective Stud team. The son of Crillon was purchased for £220,000 at Tatts in March following success in a point-to-point bumper at Tipperary under Jamie Codd. Da Capo Glory is the only horse to enhance the form since, but this race looks a winnable affair and he can score on his first start over hurdles.

    13:50 – Ginto

The Cullentra House team has dominated the Monksfield Novice Hurdle over the past decade, winning a total of six since 2011 and four of the previous five renewals. The Bective Stud team of Noel and Valerie Moran are happy for Gordon Elliott to run both GINTO and Hollow Games with both horses winning as expected on their seasonal debuts.

    NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Hollow Games beat very little at Down Royal and despite Davy Russell remaining in the saddle, I was more taken by the manner of his stablemates victory over this course and distance two-weeks ago. The son of Walk In The Park has excellent track experience having won here twice and could have the better kick to see of his rival over this trip with the drier ground also looking a positive.

    14:20 – Macs Charm (EW)

A wide open 2m 6f handicap hurdle where the lightly raced MACS CHARM has a solid each-way claim for Colm Murphy and Brian Hayes. The son of Le Fou is only having a fifth start under rules having finished behind Keskonrisk on his rules debut and fourth to Battle Of Actium in what was a very competitive maiden hurdle at Down Royal last December.

Despite been outclassed at Leopardstown last Christmas, his comeback run when recently second at Wexford was eye-catching and he can play a hand in this race on his handicap debut. The handicapper has left him unchanged on 104 with the extra distance and his recent race fitness clear positives. Lord Erskine is looking for back to back victories for Harry Rogers in a race which looks extremely competitive.

    14:50 – Definite Plan

It’s hard to get away from Gordon Elliott’s love affair with the feature Troytown Chase which he won on four consecutive occasions between 2014 and 2017. The Cullentra House handler has declared seven-runners with the Gigginstown bothers of Michael and Eddie O’Leary responsible for six in total (four trained by Elliott). The trends in recent years are positive for the leading contenders in the betting with seven of the last 10 winners all returning at 10/1 or lower.

My pin has falling on the Elliott trained DEFINITE PLAN who comes here in good form having won at Cheltenham last month. His ability to perform on drier ground conditions is a key factor with the horse lightly raced under rules for a nine-year-old (just ten rules starts in total). He’s progressing nicely and looks to have more to offer having been a model of consistency this year, and I’d expect him to be ridden cold by Denis O’Regan before staying on late to challenge for victory.

    15:50 – Agritime (NB)

I don’t think many will leave before the closing bumper because this Listed Mares finale looks an intriguing contest with seven of the 12-declared runners all previous winners. Patrick Mullins has decided to stick with Flemencello, who recently finished third in good company at Gowran Park with stablemate and impressive Sligo winner Nos Na Gaoithe ridden by Jody Townend. The Model Kingdom won nicely at Galway while Battling Bessie was game for Peter Fahey when scoring at Cork.

I’m hoping AGRITIME might be classy enough to handle the drier ground conditions for Emmet Mullins following back to back victories on soft and heavy at Limerick and Cork last month. The daughter of Mountain High might get away with it on pedigree with Michael O’Sullivan back in the saddle. He gave her an excellent winning ride at Limerick before Patrick Mullins suggested this race to his cousin Emmet following his sit and sheer victory in Mallow.
