13:08 Aintree – Act Of God
This is a tough race to call and Pileon should take the favourites tag. His form went missing last season, but prior to that he had looked a really progressive youngster – especially when narrowly beaten at the Cheltenham Festival off a mark higher than the one he races off here. He could be chucked in and could win easily.
However, I am going for one that needs no guesswork as he won on the Flat at Gowran Park last month. ACT OF GOD’s handicap mark has been bumped up for this run in the UK, but he comes here fit and that might just swing it.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
13:50 Wincanton – Bravemansgame
It’s very hard to look past BRAVEMANSGAME in the first contest that ITV cover from Somerset racecourse. The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding was one of the leading novice hurdlers in the last season and had an eye-catching start over fences last month at Newton Abbot. He potential is there for all to see and could prove very hard to best in this one.
* Since this article was published Bravemansgame has been declared a non-runner.
14:15 Aintree – Spyglass Hill
Time To Get Up looks every inch a Grand National horse on what we have seen of him. He is an eight-year-old, who has only run seven times in his life. He races here off a mark of 144 and the lowest rated runner in last year’s National was 145.
He took a couple of runs and a real trip to find top form, so that is the only concern. I’m again looking for value with SPYGLASS HILL, he ran well in the Munster National and the trainer Henry De Bromhead knows what’s needed to win over these fences.
14:25 Wincanton – Perfect Myth (Each-Way)
Perfect Myth ran a blinder to be second in this race last year at a big price. She will be high in the odds again but will love the current conditions. We know she likes the track and Kai Linehan takes 10lbs off her back, which will help. Rose Of Arcadia looks like she may want slower ground, meanwhile Une De La Seniere has found ideal conditions.
15:00 Wincanton – Cap Du Nord
CAP DU NORD ran some really good races last year, winning at Newbury in a decent contest. He will love conditions and has had a prep run at Chepstow to blow the cobwebs away. Christian Williams’ entrant is a very strong traveller and ticks a lot of the boxes needed for this race.
Some Chaos is another who has to be respected after a strong win Chepstow following his wind operation. The other not to be ruled out is Cobra De Mai. He has slipped down the handicap to a dangerous mark and ran a really good race at Chepstow, he could definitely be involved.
15:20 Aintree – Summerville Boy
SUMMERVILLE BOY has a fantastic record when fresh. He won this race last year giving weight away, this year he is better off with the conditions and receives weight from some of the others. There is a lot to like about Tom George’s charge.
15:35 Wincanton – Sceau Royal
SCEAU ROYAL was the victor in this contest last year and he has had a prep run at Kempton too. The ground conditions more in his favour than Goshen here and that’s why he has to get the nod.
