12:23 Manobo
Ever since going to market with the race earlier in the week, it has been one way traffic for Charlie Appleby’s MANOBO. Three from three to date, he beat subsequent Derby runner-up Mojo Star on debut before two notching emphatic wins. The most recent of those victories came in a Listed race at Saint Cloud by 10 lengths.
Aidan O’Brien’s Interpretation ran an okay race in the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster when fourth, but is looking exposed here. Meanwhile, Manobo’s stablemate Kemari has something to prove following a no show at York. However, I’m expecting Manobo to get favourite backers off to a winning start.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
13:33 Real World
Last year’s winner The Revenant returns here, and the lightly raced 6-year-old goes for three wins in this race on the bounce. He’s a horse who you’d fancy more if rain fell in Paris, but it’s not due until Saturday night and his two starts this year have looked a bit lacklustre. I’m opposing him with the Frankie Dettori and Saeed bin Suroor’s mount REAL WORLD.
He’s looked like a horse going places since returning from Dubai, winning the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot, a listed race at Newbury and Grade 3 at York with relative ease. There is still surely more to come and he rates as the improver in the field, so I’m taking him to deny The Revenant the hat trick here.
14:15 Trueshan
Its great to get the three big guns in Stradivarius, Trueshan and Princess Zoe standing their ground and staying in the field. It gives us the first clash of these huge names all year. Defending champ Princess Zoe is another that would love if the rain came a day earlier, as she thrives on extreme ground and I just believe she’ll struggle if, as expected, the rain holds off until the evening on Saturday. Stradivarius hasn’t looked the same horse of old this year and has won 3 soft races, but was well beaten in the Gold Cup at the Royal meeting.
With that in mind, TRUESHAN looks the one to takes this. Still only a five-year-old, he thrives with a bit of cut in the ground and has put up some huge performances when getting it, which he run on this Saturday. I’m backing him to stamp his authority on the European staying division here.
14:50 Joie De Soir
Roger Varian’s Believe in Love probably sets the standard on form here, but needs to bounce back from a very lacklustre performance at Goodwood in July. I reckon the André Fabre team can take this with JOIE DE SOIR.
An improving three-year-old, she found only Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe bound Raabihah too good in the trial for this and had the re-opposing Valia narrowly behind. She looks to be improving still, and the step up to 1m 6f should hold no worries for her.
