Horse Racing tips: The 3 smart selections at Sligo on Tuesday

PPTV’s Graham Temple has had a study of the first three races at Sligo.

16:45 – Via Rosa

An interesting mare’s maiden hurdle to kick off the card. Donthavetime makes a quick reappearance after falling at the last when already beaten here earlier this month. Paul Townend retains the ride and he’ll be anxious to get her to settle a bit better in the early part of the race as she ran far too freely last time. If she does settle Donthavetime would certainly play a big role.

The one I prefer though is Via Rosa. Padraig Roche’s Kildare raider left the cash in the satchels in a bumper at Wexford a couple of weeks ago but her overall Bumper form is superior to that of Donthavetime and if she can put in a fluent round of jumping on her hurdling debut she should be able to account for today’s opposition.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

17:15 – Kitty Galore

Tipperary trainer John Patrick Ryan had a good day here earlier in the month with four of his seven runners at least making the frame. Kitty Galore was one of those runners. The mare built up a sizeable lead before weakening late on. I expect connections to employ similar tactics today and over this slightly shorter trip she looks a decent each way prospect.

She lost some ground with a tardy leap at the fourth last that day too. JP Ryan’s stable is in fine form lately yielding two wins and two seconds from his four runners at Tramore in the last few days. Kitty Galore just needs to clean up her jumping a little and she could prove hard to catch this evening at Cleveragh.

17:45 – Moakland

John Patrick Ryan has another interesting one in this field in Moakland. The lightly raced six-year-old gelding caught the eye staying on from miles off the pace to grab second behind an impressive Willie Mullins odds on favourite here on August 5th.

Moakland is clearly an improving sort and if he’s able to stay closer to the pace today he can put his late stamina to good use again and go one better.

Of course we all need to keep a close eye on any market support for Willie Mullins’ entry Valley Breeze which is returning from a two year absence. Mullin’s has won with three of his five runners at Sligo this year and Valley Breeze warrants a second glance in a race that won’t take much winning.
