York hosts the latest of the summer meetings as the Flat season in the UK continues with the Ebor Festival. A whole host of top-quality runners are set to compete on the Knavesmire over four days of fast and furious racing.
Paddy’s top traders have drawn up antepost markets for the biggest renewals so we thought we’d take a closer look at the betting ahead of next week’s fiesta.
St Mark’s Basilica is unbeaten in his three-year-old campaign and has proven himself as a superstar over 1m 2f. The Ballydoyle sensation comfortably beat Mishriff in last month’s Eclipse Stakes at Sandown and our traders think a repeat is on the cards.
Snowfall has been the star three-year-old filly this summer after backing up her record-breaking Epsom Oaks victory by romping to glory in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh. She’ll be Aidan O’Brien’s leading fancy having saddled Love to success last year.
The old boy Stadivarius was cruelly denied the chance to make it five Goodwood Cup’s on the spin due to adverse ground conditions but he’s been rerouted to York – where he’s unbeaten in four starts – for the Group 2 over 2m. Trueshan took advantage of his absence to win at Glorious Goodwood but fast ground could see Alan King opt against running. Spanish Mission placed ahead of Stradivarius in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.
Suesa confirmed herself as a sprint sensation by winning last month’s King George Qatar Stakes ahead of Dragon Symbol and Glass Slippers. Wesley Ward’s Golden Pal and King Power Racing’s two-time York winner Winter Power are also prominent in our antepost market.
Godolphin’s Live Your Dream has co-assumed early favouritism – along with Sonnyboyliston – after victory over the 1m 6f trip at Newmarket last month but it’s a crowded market with 75 horses holding entries a week out from final decs.
