13:50 Ascot – System
ITV coverage on Saturday gets underway with the Group 3 Princess Margaret for juveniles over 6 furlongs and it’s an open affair. SYSTEM did well to pip the re-opposing Desert Dreamer and can confirm the form here for Richard Hannon and Pat Dobbs.
My selection is lightly raced and still looked green when scoring at a big price. Clearly, she is learning all the time and she really should put up a huge run if that last effort is to be believed.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
14:05 York – Nibras Again
A 5 furlongs Flat handicap, but we’ve got jumps riders on top! NIBRAS AGAIN is absolutely in the grip of the handicapper, but still has each-way claims for Paul Midgley and Jonathan England. The son of Kyllachy has finished second at Nottingham and Newmarket the last twice, but what I like about him here is that when he hits double figure fields he tends to run better. So I’ll have a few quid on each-way and pray!
14:25 Ascot – Guru
Now a handicap over 7 furlong and this is another wide open event. GURU has a bit to find on form, but I suspect the gelded son of Kingman is capable of better for the Gosdens and champion Oisin Murphy. My selection has only raced four times and has mixed it over 7 furlongs and a mile.
He wasn’t disgraced at all at this track last time and while the effort didn’t shout a shorter trip was ideal, he should get a decent pace to run at here. He looked useful on debut at Newbury.
14:40 York – Gulliver
Handicap company over 6 furlongs. It’s about time GULLIVER got back in the places and this is a chance to do so off a rating of 98, he has been up as high up to 109 recently. A run at Ascot two starts ago, when fifth for this column, in the Wokingham Stakes was a good one and he has plenty of decent York form. He might stay on well for David O’Meara and David Nolan if he’s on a going day and I’ll back him each-way.
15:00 Ascot – Aldaary
We’re in handicap company again here, but over a mile this time. Motakhayyel was huge last time, but doesn’t always back up. The one I like is ALDAARY, who goes this trip for the first time for William Haggas and Tom Marquand.
The ability to travel strongly in this field might be a huge asset and he appears to go on any ground. His run in the Buckingham Palace was a decent one and he’s better off at the weights with Danyah.
15:15 York – Mohaafeth
This is the Group 2 York Stakes over an extended 1m 2f and it’s hard not to be all over MOHAAFETH here, who I’m hoping will destroy Armory and Juan Elcano. The William Haggas runner is ridden by Jim Crowley and, of course, missed the Derby before landing the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot.
On ratings he’s no good thing here, but I suspect he’s miles better than his mark of 112 and will hack up. He just might be a right tool.
15:35 Ascot – Love
Now the big one, the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes over 1m 4f. If like me you think LOVE is exceptional then you have to stick with her with the ground unlikely to ease in time for Adayar.
There is a chance of rain Saturday, and if it turned soft, I would change my mind. Love looked a monster in the 1000 Guineas, Oaks and Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, and of course being a filly she doesn’t have to give quite as much weight to Adayar as an older male horse. Rated 122 she’s no certainty. But, I reckon on a fast surface she’ll have too much pace for the others.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
