York Races Day Two as it happened: All the highlights from Thursday at the Ebor Festival 2020

Love conquered all on day two of the York Races Ebor Festival.

Love Ebor Festival Yorkshire Oaks

Love showed her class in today’s Group 1 feature race with an effortless Yorkshire Oaks win by five lengths. She had so much poise and control that the winner barely looked like needing second gear, let alone third. Her performance was the undoubted highlight of Thursday and day two of the Ebor Festival at York Races, so join us as we recap another thrilling day as it happened on the Knavesmire.

Earlier this week, the lads over on the From The Horse’s Mouth recorded a special tip-tacular pod to get you clued up for the rest of the Festival which you can still hear in full below, or wherever you get your podcasts from.

As always, every race today was available to watch live and completely free on Paddy’s app and on PP.com. Every race on Friday and Saturday (yes, including the ones not on the telly) will be available to stream as well.

So, let’s look back on a great day and you can also check out how it all went down on day one.

Essential reading for day thee of the York Races Ebor Festival on Friday

13:45 Sky Bet Lowther Stakes (1.45pm) – Miss Amulet

Miss Amulet saw off the challenge of Sacred to take today’s opener in impressive style, extending her lead to around a length after holding steady in the face of the favourite’s challenge. Umm Kulthum was next home in front of She’s So Nice.

14:15 Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes (2.15pm) – Happy Romance

Frank Hickey’s tip Happy Romance got the job done and got it done early, with a commanding lead that the SP fav Devious Company couldn’t close despite a strong showing late on. Out The Hat was third with a nice SP of 33/1 ahead of Uncle Jumbo and Rebel At Dawn in fifth. We paid five places on this race instead of four.

14:45 Clipper Logistics Handicap (2.45pm) – Montatham

Montatham pipped a thrilling Clipper Logistics Handicap as his perfectly-timed run just had enough energy to condemn Sir Busker to second again, despite a booming charge up the rail from the back of the pack. SP fav Top Rank was third home ahead of Prompting and Ouzo. We paid five places in this race instead of four.

15:15 Darley Yorkshire Oaks (3.15pm) – Love

Love cruised menacingly in second place before easing into the lead just after the bend. She effortlessly extended away from this Group 1 field to take the Yorkshire Oaks by around 4-and-a-half lengths. There was zero fuss from horse or rider and it looked like an easy morning gallop. 33/1 shot Alpanista was second in front of One Voice but the rest were just filler as we sat back and enjoyed an easy win for the big favourite.

15:45 British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes (3.45pm) – Gold Wand

Gold Wand showed why she was fancied in this one, exploding from 1 furlong to go to win and win well indeed. Vivionn put in a strong showing to claim second from the SP favourite Award Scheme with Sea Of Faith, who did the early running, fading to fourth.

16:20 Sky Bet EBF Stallions Nursery Handicap (4.20pm) – Ataser

Ataser showed good improvement to stay on in spite of a strong challenge from SP fav Mayaas who had to try and make it from the back of the pack with three to go, leaving himself too much to do and missing out by just over a length. Star of Orion finished strongly in third place with Olympic Theatre behind.

16:50 British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap (4.50pm) – Amber Storm

With a furlong to go it looked like the closer on day two of the Ebor Festival at York Races was between Dawaaween, Lawahed and Lady of Aran but Amber Storm came flying through from around 7th on the outside to take the race in eye-catching style. Dawaaween, Lawahed and Lady of Aran chased her home in that order to finish the day in style.
