Essential reading for day two of the York Races Ebor Festival on Thursday

13:45 Sky Bet And Symphony Group Handicap (1:45pm) – Acclaim The Nation

Acclaim The Nation dominated the opening race of the 2020 York Races Ebor Festival, leading from start to finish at a handy 18/1. Jason Weaver’s each-way shout Soldier’s Minute was second home, coming on strongly late on to fend off the challenge of Tarboosh (with an SP of 50/1), Arecibo and Jonah Jones in that order.

14:15 Tattersalls Acomb Stakes (2:15pm) – Gear Up

Gear Up got up to pip Spycatcher at the death by around a neck after the latter looked like he might have enough in the tank one furlong out. But Gear Up went full throttle in the final 1/2 furlong and proved too strong to resist. 28/1 punt Broxi put in a good run to take third in front of Royal Scimitar. If your horse came 2nd, 3rd or 4th, Paddy’s giving you your money back if you backed them to win.

14:45 Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes (2:45pm) – Pyledriver

Pyledriver blasted home from two furlongs out to leave other more fancied, and hugely expensive, horses trailing some way behind in his wake. It was pure speed from the winner with big favourite Mogul having absolutely nothing in terms of a reply, finishing third, just ahead of Berkshire Rocco in fourth. Highland Chief was second but 3.5m yearling purchase Darain was back in fifth.

15:15 Juddmonte International Stakes (3:15pm) – Ghaiyyath

Ghaiyyath did as expected, hitting the front from the stalls and never looking back. He always looked in control and had plenty in the tank to win by a couple of lengths towards the line when the challenges came. It was an incredibly impressive performance from this horse who keeps getting better and better. Magical was second, just ahead of Lord North and Kameko but none could hold a candle to the super-classy Charlie Appleby-trained Colt.

15:45 Sky Bet Handicap (3:45pm) – Summer Moon

Summer Moon reeled in Rajinsky who kicked really early and looked to be flying, however he just didn’t have enough in the legs to prevent Joe Fanning’s mount from passing him inside the final furlong by just under a length. Matt Chapman’s 40/1 each way shout Makawee flew home to take third from Indianapolis and Volcanic Sky who challenged for the lead but faded to fifth.

16:20 Sky Bet Fillies’ Sprint Handicap (4:20pm) – Lady In France

Lady In France toughed it out to hold off Keep Busy as the duo traded the lead by a nose up to the line, but in the end the former just had that extra gas and was pulling away in the last few yards. The final places in this brisk sprint were occupied by Mighty Spirit and Our Little Pony.

16:50 Sky Bet Nursery Handicap (4:50pm) – Cairn Island

Perotto put up a valiant fight but couldn’t stop Cairn Island just getting in front at the line. Those two were a good two to three lengths ahead of Selected who was in front of the pack which was headed by SP favourite Pure Dreamer.
