York 13:55 Ventura Rebel
Richard Fahey’s runner has some cracking juvenile form to his name last season and looks to have trained on for his three-year-old campaign. He off the back of an excellent effort behind Golden Horde at Royal Ascot in the Commonwealth Cup. The way he hit the line suggested that this test of 7 furlongs on a flat, galloping track, is going to be ideal.
Newbury 14:15 Nahaarr
Was another frustratingly-placed runner for the Haggas team at the Royal meeting. However, we can upgrade his performance as he was always up with a strong pace and the winner came through to catch him late in the day.
He is drawn fairly close to a pacey runner in Recon Mission, so should get the ideal set up into the race by latching onto his tail early on.
York 14:30 Danzeno
Michael Appleby’s runner seems to have been around forever and the nine-year-old doesn’t seem to be losing any of his zip with his advancing years. A glance back through his previous course and distance form at York gives him a very appealing profile on this track.
Adam Kirby gets the leg up on him for the first time today and that can help the old boy to put his best foot forward.
Newbury 14:50 Nelson Gay
He doesn’t come out best on official ratings, but Richard Hughes’ runner definitely still has a decent upside and improving profile. He ended up bumping into a future Royal Ascot winning juvenile in The Lir Jet on his first two starts, the first of which was a third-placed finish over 5f.
The return to the minimum trip looks very much in his favour and he looks a value each-way punt.
York 15:05 Queen Jo Jo
Kevin Ryan’s runner was a little disappointing behind Speak in Colours at The Curragh last time, never really getting into that contest from the back of the pack. Not given a hard time, she’s better than the finishing position would suggest. Queen Jo Jo is not far off the best of these from a ratings point of view and there is no reason for her to be such an each-way price.
Jockey Sam James also has winning form on her too.
Newbury 15:25 Global Giant
John Gosden and Frankie Dettori combine on a runner who has only recently been switched across to this stable and looked very good when justifying short odds on his reappearance at Wolverhampton.
He was again strong in the market at Sandown, but found himself just short of room at a vital stage, and didn’t really have a clear cut at the front few. That form can be upgraded and as he looks to make amends.
Curragh 15:45 A’Ali
The Crisford runner Back to his brilliant best last time at Sandown when coming with a real rattle late on to win. Critically there was a very strong headwind that day and he may well have been slightly flattered by being held up and getting a lovely tug into the contest.
Make A Challenge sets the bar very high, but the three-year-old A’Ali may just have his measure getting 4lbs in the weight-for-age allowance.
Newbury 16:00 Selino
It was an excellent return to action with a solid second at the Royal meeting behind a potential group horse in Fujaira Prince. He will be held up and played late, but we look to have a strong pace angle here with Australis and Rochester House both likely to push on.
He was short of room at a vital stage before making his challenge last time and given a smooth passage, he can produce what is becoming a trademark change of gear late on to win.
Curragh 16:15 Lovelier
Aidan O’Brien’s runner has a wonderful pedigree being a full sister to the top-class performer Winter. She has improved with each and every run and comes in off by far and away her best performance when winning a shade cosily last time at Killarney, six days ago. An even better effort is required stepping up into Group Two company now, but she looks destined for much bigger and better further down the line.
