Guillaume Viel is the leading amateur rider among this field at Auteuil and takes the mount on SAINTE PETRONILLE for David Cottin. The filly gets weight from all rivals and could find the improvement required to take this conditions chase following her victory at Fontainebleau in February.
Device has excellent form in the book, but returns from a 696-day break with Guillaume Macaire’s consistent My Way back over fences today.
Francois Nicolle is in excellent form this week and runs three of the seven declared runners here, with Pamela Des Mottes and Sainte Candy both winners on debut. SAINT CANDY gets the verdict to remain unbeaten having bested Anita Du Berlais here in March. Angelo Zuliani remains in the saddle and should see off her stable companions with the Cottin runner to land this listed juvenile hurdle.
A field of seven-runners are declared for the first Grade 2 contest on the card in Paris, the Prix Jean Stern, where several of these meet again. King Edward beat Al Cuarto, Dream Wish and Road Senam over a shorter trip here in March with AL CAURTO getting the vote to turn the form around this Sunday.
Bertrand Lestrade and Guillaume Macaire are an excellent combination and the trainer knows what it takes to find the winner of this race – Macaire has won this race seven-times since 1996 and landed the last three renewals.
The Prix Leon Rambaud is a trial for the French Champion Hurdle and De Bon Coeur took this race in 2018 before returning to Auteuil for the big one the following month for trainer Francois Nicolle. This year Nicolle has another exciting prospect with the impressive five-year-old filly L’AUTONOMIE, under jockey Angelo Zuliani.
She has improved rapidly and will be a short price following five consecutive victories since last June and it looks impossible to side against her in our second Grade 2.
The 72nd renewal of the Prix Amadou is our final Grade 2 on the card at Auteuil with top trainers Francois Nicolle and Guillaume Macaire doing battle yet again in the French capital.
This hurdle contest is run for four-year-olds and is a stepping stone for the Prix Alain du Breil, a summer Grade 1 won by our very own Ruby Walsh three-times. Macaire is the joint leading trainer (five wins) in the Prix Amadou and runs leading contender Want Of A Nail.
The filly is improving, but returns after a break and gives weight away to Nicolle’s MOISES HAS who could have the fitness edge today. The lightly-raced son of Martaline is unexposed and finished a good second on a returned run here in March.
