Chester 13.45 – Copper Knight

ITV coverage Thursday begins with this handicap over 5f. COPPER KNIGHT has come tumbling down the ratings – he was off 100 just six runs ago yet can go off 85 here. At the age of seven he’s far from too old to make a splash and he showed a glimmer of ability last time at Musselburgh. From a good draw and with the ability to act on soft he is worth a few quid each-way.

New to Paddy Power?

Worcester 14.00 – Tidal Watch

ITV show one jumps race in this handicap chase over 2m4f. Not much to get too excited about here! TIDAL WATCH has come tumbling down the handicap and this might be his chance for the Jonjo O’Neill team of Jnr and Snr. My selection was not disgraced at Wetherby last time and while this trip is as far as he wants to go he does have back-class.

Chester 14.15 – Yibir

Now a Listed event in the Dee Stakes over an extended 1m2f. I put up YIBIR as a horse to follow this term at the start of the season and I’ll stick with him here even though the ground is a worry. He started off life on soft which suggests Charlie Appleby didn’t think it was a problem. The only issue is he didn’t do very well on it! That said he can hopefully cope and his run first time this term at Sandown was of much promise. William Buick takes the ride.

Chester 14.45 – Aleas

Another handicap, this time over an extended 7f. ALEAS has a horrible draw but his record so far suggests he will love the ground and he might have more to come than most. The Ralph Beckett runner, ridden by Rossa Ryan, was a good scorer at Newbury two runs ago and followed that up at Kempton when last seen in November. If ready for the return can make a splash and will be running on strongly.

Chester 15.15 – Trueshan

This is the Group 3 Ormonde for older horses over nearly a mile and three quarters. Japan is the class act but it won’t be easy to catch TRUESHAN in conditions he will relish. Alan King’s runner ended up last term with victory in the Group 2 Champions Long Distance Cup, and while that was not the greatest race of all time with Stradivarius running a shocker, it was truly impressive. I’ll take him even at this lesser trip under Hollie Doyle.

Chester 15.45 – Spirit Dancer

Finally a handicap over an extended 1m2f. SPIRIT DANCER is worth a few quid eachway here for Paul Hanagan and Richard Fahey. The Frankel gelding did nothing on debut at Newbury, but his runs at York and Ayr last season over this trip and on this type of surface suggest he can do well here from a good draw and off 83. Has strong claims for me if putting that debut behind him.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
