14.35, Cork – Lustown Baba
Make A Challenge is top rated at 110 but LUSTOWN BUBA is only rated 106. She beat Make A Challenge by 4l in the Curragh in October but was getting 9lbs. She is only four-years-old and could turn into a proper Group 1 sprinter this season.
14.40, Haydock – Debece
DEBECE was impressive with 90 per cent of his run at Sandown on his first start Skelton, where he went hell for leather from the front and jumped really well in the main. He looked like he had the race won leaving the back straight and hit 1.15 in the run, but his 15-month absence told at the finish and he tired due to the aggressive ride.
He got a 2lb rise for that second and is up to 132 but he was rated 141 when going off 9/2 favourite at Aintree in 2019. The drying ground will suit and even though he carries 11st9lbs in this 3m1f Handicap Chase (where we are paying four places), he looks sure to go well for the in-form Skeltons and Harry is obviously going all-out for the Jockey’s Championship.

15.15, Haydock – Republican (Each-Way)
REPUBLICAN was useful last season when beating the now 135-rated Flic Ou Voyou at Taunton off level weights. He was also a respectable sixth in the EBF Final at Kempton (re-scheduled from Sandown) off a mark of 124, and that was race was full of subsequent winners.
He had two starts over fences and ran well without pulling up any trees, but was off for three months prior to his return to hurdles at Ascot over 3m in February off a mark of 120. He shaped better than his fifth beaten 18l suggested, having weakened after the second last, and he may have needed the run. Winner J’Ai Foid won again next time off a 6lb-higher mark and went up another 13lbs, while the third Saint Dalina won next time off 2lbs higher. The eigth Leostar bolted up on his next start and 11th Paricolor also won on their next start.
Republican needs to prove he stays 3m but if he does stay he has a big chance in this Handicap Hurdle (where we are also paying five places). Oliver Sherwood was really quiet in January and February when he only had one winner from 35 runners, but he has had three winners and five placed from 25 runners in March.
16.05, Fairyhouse – Ruaille Buaille
Drying ground would be a big positive for RUAILLE BUAILLE in this 2m Handicap Hurdle, as her bumper and maiden hurdle wins were on decent ground. I thought she shaped better than the finishing position of eighth suggested in the mares’ handicap hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival off a mark of 130 because she got herself into contention jumping two out and just weakened from there. The testing ground over 2m2f stretched her but 2m on better ground is a massive positive for her.
That mares’ hurdle form is really strong with the winner Heaven Help Us winning the Coral Cup off 138, while Global Equity was second in a listed novice race on her next start. Tellmesomethinggirl won the Mares’ Novice Hurdle at Cheltneham while Mrs Milner fell in that race at Leopardstown then won the Pertemps. Ruaille Buaille has been dropped 1lb for that performance and she will definitely win a handicap soon.

16.40, Fairyhouse – Shuil Valentine
Party Central ran a cracker when second in the Grade 2 Mares Bumper at the Dublin Racing Festival, just a neck behind Grangee, but SHUIL VALENTINE created a big impression when winning on debut at Naas by 9l (practically on the bridle). She is related to the very useful Uisce Solas and Penny Out and is from the family of the Stayers’ Hurdle winner Shuil Ar Aghaidh, who was trained by Peter Kiely .
The fifth from Naas, Betty Zane, was beaten a neck in a maiden hurdle at Thurles on her next start, so the form can’t be knocked as being really weak. The third Itsallabouteve had a penalty but had won on debut at Limerick and takes her place here in this 2m Mares Listed Bumper.
