Horse Racing tips: Mick Fitzgerald's Saturday 7 for ITV Races

It’s Caspian Caviar Gold Cup day at Cheltenham on ITV we also have some decent action from Doncaster.

Cheltenham 13.50 – Cepage

I really liked Musical Slave but he will not get a run as he is first reserve and Master Tommy Tucker is at the head of the market on the back of two comfortable successes at Haydock and Huntingdon. They were small-field races though where no pressure was put on his jumping, but he will not have the same luxury now in a 17-runner race.

Cepage was fourth in this contest last year off the very same mark. He’s been tried over further but this looks test looks tailormade for him. He loves the track, the ground is not a problem and should go well again.

Doncaster 14.05 – House Island

The favourite Ofalltheginjoints won nicely at Exeter beating a nice horse of Philip Hobbs called St Barts. However, trainer Paul Webber’s string is flying at present and House Island was a good winner at Ludlow last time. He gets the nod as the Tizzard stable is in and out with some of its runners.

Cheltenham 14.25 – Ashdown Lad

Richard Johnson is a eye-catching jockey booking for Irish raider Make Good as he has ridden nine winners from 17 rides for its trainer John McConnell when he sends them over.

Make Good is very consistent and won a novice handicap at Gowran Park last time. Ashtown Lad has been impressive in his last two starts and you could argue that he is unlucky not to have won his last three hurdle races, as he made a mistake at the last at Wetherby when narrowly beaten by Ask A Honey Bee.

He can make amends now.

Doncaster 14.40 Monmiral

Monmiral is a French import who won well at Exeter ad has won in Auteuil in his native France. He holds the stronger form. There will be a few long faces if this one doesn’t win for trainer Paul Nicholls.

Mistersister is another French import and won a claimer at Lion D’Angers before joining Charlie Mann.

15.00 Summerville Boy (each-way)

The International Hurdle is the feature race on the card and sees the return of Goshen, who tipped up at the last in March with the Triumph Hurdle at his mercy. The New Course they run on now, will suit more than the Old course, so he has lots going for him.

He has been beaten a couple of times on the Flat, but a return to hurdles and the form of his trainer Gary Moore bodes well. At the prices though, Summerville Boy appeals. He won a Supreme Novices Hurdle and has won a Relkeel Hurdle at this track over further. He has been campaigned as a stayer lately and finished fourth to Thyme Hill at Newbury recently, but his beating of Ch’tibello at Aintree over 2m 4f before that reads well.

I think he is a massive each-way play here.

Doncaster 15:15 – Boldmere

Boldmere is a course and distance winner and won his first two chases last term. He’s had a couple of spins this year andf finished fourth on his last start at Bangor in a 3m handicap chase behind Notachance. He’s been dropped 2lbs by the handicapper and runs off 142 now which is his last winning mark. There’s lots to like.

Cheltenham 15.35 – The White Mouse

A mares handicap hurdle over 2m 4f and the Cheltenham Festival winner Indefatigable made a good comeback on decent ground at Kempton when third to Bannixtown Glory last month. Lucy Wadham’s The White Mouse won very nicely at Wincanton and I was impressed with that performance.

She handled slower ground well in the past, as long as she doesn’t ‘bounce’ (they can disappoint on their second run back after an absence) can go close.
