It’s the first Grade 1 of the National Hunt season in Ireland and all eyes will be on Down Royal for the Champion Chase on Saturday, October 30 as Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Minella Indo makes his seasonal reappearance.
Henry de Bromhead’s charge landed the big one at Prestbury Park in March and will no doubt be primed to defend his title next year. A tricky opening assignment awaits at Down Royal, however, with four slick rivals set to go to post at 2.50pm.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Among the runners are Gordon Elliott’s rapidly improving Galvin and King George VI hero Frodon, who is set to make his debut on Irish soil.
Delta Work (J. W. Kennedy)
Frodon (Bryony Frost)
Galvin (Davy Russell)
Minella Indo (Rachael Blackmore)
Ravenhill (Denis O’Regan)
Minella Indo is the heavy favourite to kick off his campaign with victory as Rachael Blackmore takes the ride after Gordon Elliott insisted on booking Jack Kennedy for Delta Work. Galvin is seeking a seventh win in a row while Frodon, the sole British entry, is likely to prove popular with punters.
