Leopardstown racecard for Irish Champions Weekend & today's tips

The feature is one of five Group contests today at Leopardstown, with a Listed renewal and two Premier Handicaps completing the eight-race card.

The Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes, run over a distance of 1m 2f, was rated as the second-best race in the world last year but a field of just four runners will go to post at 2.45pm.

14:10: A competitive Group 2 that can go to MAC SWINEY if bouncing back to the form he showed when landing the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh in May.

14:45: ST MARK’S BASILICA coped very well with a small-field scenario when an impressive winner of the Eclipse and can land a fifth Group 1 success in a row.

15:15: SIR LAMORAK is well worth forgiving his effort in the Grand Prix de Paris as his close second in a Royal Ascot handicap off clear top weight prior to that suggests he’ll be winning Group races before long.

15:45: A low-mileage, progressive 4-y-o, PHOENIX COWBOY was impressive in making it 2 from 3 this season when landing an 11-runner Gowran handicap (12.5f) 4 weeks ago, impressing in putting distance between himself and the runner-up.
