Plenty of these have question marks against them. Top Beak and Peltwell at least arrive on the back of breakthrough wins in this sphere but have been hit by the handicapper as a consequence so RUKWA, who has been in fine form of late on the Flat, is taken to capitalise on a career-low mark back hurdling.
A good case can be made for both top weight Detatched and handily weighted Vanderbilt but preference is for JEU DE MOTS who seemed rejuvenated by a wind op when runner-up at Sedgefield and he can go one better here off the same mark.
Five runners but essentially a match, and MESSIRE DES OBEAUX is fancied to get back to winning ways having found the step up to Grade 1 company in gruelling conditions at Sandown beyond him last time. Marown has something to find on form with Alan King’s smart hurdler/chaser but arrives on the up so shouldn’t be underestimated.
Judged on her Boxing Day performance at this venue, Ballycallan Fame is the clear pick of the runners who already have hurdling experience. However, she is third choice behind two promising types, namely GOSUATRI and Lesser. The selection will be all the more interesting if the market speaks positively on his British debut.
Grouseman is already better over hurdles than on the Flat, so he is worth monitoring over the remaining weeks of the jumps season, while Fisher Green could progress from his encouraging run at Musselburgh. However, the Sedgefield win of DEMOCRATIC OATH has been franked since and he is taken to make a winning handicap debut.

The top three on the shortlist are SUNNY EXPRESS, Big Chief Benny and Beat Box in that order of preference. They all have solid pieces of form and look nicely handicapped. Hat-trick seeker Road Warrior and last-time-out scorer Roxboro Road are obvious dangers.
The four to focus on are Light Flicker, Realms Of Fire, Banana Joe and MEGAUDAIS SPEED. Henry Daly’s Banana Joe receives plenty of weight from Laura Young’s charge and could feasibly benefit from the application of headgear, but there was much to like about the manner in which the selection stuck on for hands and heels riding at Wincanton and today’s extra yardage should suit.
In terms of bumper form, HILLCREST has a leading chance and Armand De Brignac is second choice. Aviewtosea needs to bounce back from a disappointing effort. Rules debutants Harper’s Brook and Champ Is Real have good credentials, while attractively bred newcomer Mister Freddie also needs a close look.
