12.30 – Kakamora

A few with chances, but KAKAMORA is taken to build on his promising start in this sphere following a short break He cost £105,000 after winning his sole start in Irish points and has shown enough under Rules to suggest he is up to winning a race of this nature. Old Friend shaped up well on his first run for Gary Moore when fifth at Newbury at the start of the month so rates the chief threat, although a market move for Kim Bailey’s newcomer Design Icon would put a different slant on things.

13.00 – Ladronne

A case can be made for several, but the most persuasive one is for dual hurdles winner LADRONNE. He seems to be getting the hang of chasing, producing his best two efforts the last twice, and is now just 2lb higher than his last winning mark. Seaside Girl wasn’t seen to best effect when fourth at Exeter, so rates a big threat after her break, while Wye Aye is sure to be in the mix if taking a step forward after a wind operation.

13.35 – Brooksway Fair

BROOKSWAY FAIR cost connections £80,000 after winning a point last year, and has seemingly been brought along with handicaps in mind having been well beaten in three starts over hurdles this season. It was interesting how strong he was in the market ahead of his handicap debut switched to fences at Ludlow last month from what looked a potentially lenient mark of 88 judged on his pedigree and point form. A very bad mistake at the seventh fence down the back left him with little chance, though, and he was looked after by Adam Wedge for the remainder of the race. He will likely have learnt plenty for that initial experience, and remains one to be positive about in this sphere in a race that is lacking depth.

14.05 – Bellatrizsa

BELLATRIXSA was a progressive staying handicapper on the Flat for Michael Dods last year and there is plenty about her physically, so she looks an ideal type for hurdling, especially given that she is related to some good winners in this sphere. She was well found in the betting for her debut in a listed event at Aintree in December and shaped much better than the distance beaten suggests, travelling better than most before maybe finding the testing conditions too much. She was far from knocked about and looks a sure-fire improver now. All of her best form on the Flat came on a sound surface and the return to better ground should also be in her favour. David Pipe’s French recruit is an obvious one to monitor in the market.

14.35 – Ajero

Only four runners but still plenty of interest, and the progressive AJERO is strongly fancied to extend his winning run over hurdles to four. He is a half-brother to the same connections’ Charbel, so he has the potential to go on improving for a while yet, and he looked better than ever when making a winning handicap debut at Market Rasen last month. His jumping wasn’t always fluent, but he was given a positive ride, and didn’t let a mistake at the last stop him from going away from the runner-up on the run-in. Langer Dan, who bolted up in the Imperial Cup before finishing an excellent second in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival, was back in fourth that day, so the form looks solid, and a subsequent 5lb rise may not be enough to prevent a four-timer.

15:10 – Midnight Mary

MIDNIGHT MARY got off the mark over hurdles in a first-time tongue tie over course and distance earlier this month, showing improved form and was probably value for extra than the length margin. A subsequent 6lb rise looks more than fair and she is fancied to follow up. Sound of Music is respected on the back of her Taunton third, while the likes of Champagne Lilly and Ask The Lady have the profiles of ones who could improve in handicaps.

15.40 – Doddiethegreat

Nicky Henderson has an excellent record in this sphere and his DODDIETHEGREAT is fancied to follow up his debut Ludlow victory and defy a 7lb penalty with that form working out well. Jamie Snowden’s Irish points winner Starevitch appeals as the pick of the rest, with fellow newcomer Pearly Island also not taken lightly either in a race where the market should prove highly informative.
