SIROCO JO proved to be a disappointment when pulled up on his first start for Paul Nicholls on British debut at Kempton over Christmas, but he shaped with plenty of promise when second on his sole start in France.
He is very much worth another chance for his powerful stable given that is the best form on offer. Herbiers, who opened his account over hurdles at Hereford last time, looks the obvious danger under a penalty.
13:50 Hawk’s Well
Those with previous chasing experience aren’t particularly convincing, so HAWK’S WELL and Eyes Right may well come to the fore. Both possess the physique for the larger obstacles, with marginal preference for Emma Lavelle’s inmate, who is very much bred to improve for the switch to fences and is fancied to show much improved form.
14:25 Hoi Polloi
HOI POLLOI appeared to be feeling the pinch when unseating his rider at the third-last here recently, but that was a warm race. Moreover, the drop to two miles probably didn’t benefit him, either.
He had previously shaped well over a similar trip to this at Hereford and is preferred to another promising type in Sir Sholokhov. He won his sole start in Irish points, and shaped encouragingly when third in a novice hurdle won by subsequent Grade 2 scorer My Drogo here in November.
15:00 Shut The Box
SHUT THE BOX has yet to get his head in front over fences, but has shaped with promise on each of his three starts. He was not beaten far by a useful sort over course and distance in December, and looks the way to go on the back of an excellent third in a jumpers’ bumper at Kempton last month. Dual winner Est Illic is fancied to chase him home now he reverts to handicap company.

15:35 Howling Milan
A competitive handicap, but HOWLING MILAN does rather stand out having run very well in a strongly-contested affair over course and distance on Betfair Hurdle day. He’s 4lbs well-in compared to his future mark and ought to take a bit of stopping if in the same form for a yard whose horses remain in good form. Unexposed sorts Outonpatrol and Roque It are interesting, too, so need keeping an eye on.
16:10 Song Of The Hunter
SONG OF THE HUNTER started favourite and shaped well on his first start for Johnny Farrelly when finishing second at Warwick 18 days ago, and appeals as the type to progress further for his new stable. He is taken to go one place better now and confirm the form with Guernesey. Who was just a place behind him that day and appeals as a danger along with the relatively unexposed Confirmation Bias.
16:40 Rose Ohara
ROSE OHARA has been in the frame on both starts in bumpers so far, but wasn’t seen to best effect at Lingfield last time, finding the test of speed too much. She is with a yard who do well in these events and could have more in the locker returned to turf.
Pop The Champagne did well to make a winning debut on the all-weather and is respected under a penalty, with Maid On The Moon making most appeal of the newcomers.
