What is a Lucky 63 bet?

A Lucky 63 bet involves six selections that, when combined, create 63 different bets. It’s most commonly used in horse racing betting but many football and tennis fans have found it to be a useful bet structure too.

The Lucky 63 bets are as follows:

  • 6x singles
  • 15x doubles
  • 20x trebles
  • 15x four-folds
  • 6x five-folds
  • 1x six-fold

The whole idea of Lucky 63 betting is to squeeze more value out of wagers that you were going to place anyway. Say you planned a day at the races and knew beforehand what horses you wanted to back. Well, instead of betting on single races each time, you instead combine all six selections into doubles, trebles, four-folds, five-folds and a six-fold to maximise your profit potential.

How does a Lucky 63 bet work?

The best way to understand Lucky 63 bets is to see one in action. They work by combining your selections into different bet structures. Unlike an accumulator, not every selection has to win in order to land a payout. So long as one horse wins, you’ll win at least one bet.

Here’s an example of a Lucky 63 taken at Newmarket racecourse:

Lucky 63

  • Hallasan in the 13:20 at 1.80
  • Dream Composer in the 13:50 at 5.50
  • Broadway Act in the 14:20 at 3.00
  • Slipofthepen in the 14:55 at 4.50
  • Boiling Point in the 15:30 at 1.73
  • Kikkuli in the 16:05 at 2.88

Placing a £1 stake on this Lucky 63 means your total risk rises to £63 because you bet on each combination. Your potential winnings if all six horses win is £4,230.50. If a few horses lose then you’ll still win plenty of those combos. Compare this to a £1 accumulator, which pays out £663.69 but only if all selections win.

Lucky 63 bet calculator

Creating a Lucky 63 bet in the Paddy Power sportsbook is simple. Learning how to work out a Lucky 63 isn’t as easy. If you want to do the maths then you’ll need to multiply the odds of each selection within each combination, and then add up all those odds.

The easier way is to use our Lucky 63 calculator and let Paddy do the maths for you. Just enter your stake and the odds for each selection. You can also change the odds between fractional and decimal.

Lucky 63 tips

Punters who place Lucky 63 bets usually have some background knowledge of big combos like this. You may have already enjoyed Lucky 15 betting, or placed a Patent bet.

Whether you’re an experienced gambler or totally new to Lucky 63s, it’s always worth reading a few tips to get you started. Here are some of Paddy’s to consider…

Don’t rush it – Lucky 63s require you to make six selections, so make sure you take your time. There’s no need to rush and we advise you to spend an equal amount of time considering each selection. Remember, you can also delete a pick on the bet slip before you place your wager.

Know your profit margins – You can win profit from a Lucky 63 even if just one of your six selections wins. It all depends on the odds. Therefore it’s worth understanding how much you might win if, say, two of your six picks fail. You can do this in Paddy’s bet calculator.

Be patient with research – We always advise you do some research into your picks before starting. If you’re betting on horse racing then our racing tips page is the perfect place to start. Football fans can get daily football tips from our experts – and we encourage you to do your own research too!

Start with a Patent – Lucky 63 bets are very big and it’s not always easy to pick six winners. So, why not start with a Patent bet instead? Here, you only need to make three picks, which makes things a little simpler.
