What is an accumulator each way?
An accumulator each way combines two of the most popular bet types available in sports betting:
- An each way bet…
- … and an accumulator bet
The idea is simple. You make your selections as you normally would when creating an accumulator and line them up in your bet slip. You then tick the box to ensure each selection is covered Each Way, and enter your stake. Place your bet as normal and you’ve just placed an each way accumulator.
It is most commonly used for horse racing odds where the each way option is available.
For more advice on each way betting, check out our Each Way terms page.
How do each way accumulators work?
The complicated thing about each way accumulator bets is figuring out both how they work, and how much you’ll earn as a payout depending on the outcome of your selections.
For this we’ll use an example of a horse racing meet at Wolverhampton:
- 18:00 – Tiptoe @ 7/4
- 18:30 – Firm Handshake @ 5/1
- 19:00 – Bright @ 10/3
- 19:30 – First of May @ 15/8
The odds for all four horses winning comes to 204.56/1, meaning a £5 bet would earn you £1.027.81.
We want to bet on all four selections each way. To do this, we just need to click the Each Way button next to the stake box. In doing so, our total stake doubles to £10.
That’s because an Each Way bet is effectively two wagers in one. The first half is a straight-up bet that all your selections will win. The second one is backing all four selections to at least place.
In this example all four races offered 1/5 odds on three places. So, if all four horses win then you win both halves of your bet and the maximum payout.
If all four horses place (or even if three win and just one places) then you still win the second half of your wager.
