The DP World Tour contingent makes its way to the prestigious K Club for the Horizon Irish Open. In a week that was headlined by Luke Donald’s captain picks for the Ryder Cup, it’s time to get back to business for those on Tour.

The K Club returns to host the Irish Open for the first time since 2016. The Arnold Palmer designed course will provide a stern test for those in the field this weekend. Accuracy is key here this weekend, especially on approach shots with water coming into play on 15 holes along this course. Of the last three winners here in the K Club, each one has finished first in GIR (Greens in Regulation). So with that in mind let’s get into our picks.

Rory McIlroy to Win

Rory’s had an incredible season thus far and will be looking to continue that this weekend at the K Club. McIlroy took home the spoils back here in 2016 and is fully deserving of his favourite tag this week. Along with form and course success, McIlroy had the benefit of a week off to rest any niggles he had in the Tour championship. His iron play is prolific and will be a key factor in him being in contention on Sunday. If that putter can get hot, I’d expect Rory to repeat his 2016 feat and claim his third win of the year.

Alexander Bjork – Each Way

While another Swede in Ludvig Aberg has stolen the spotlight recently, Alexander Bjork has shown some incredible consistency on Tour this season. Bjork has made every cut this year, which has included eight top tens, most recently finishing second to the aforementioned Aberg at the European Masters. He also tops all players on Tour for strokes gained on approach, so I’d fully envisage seeing Bjork in contention come Sunday.

Yannick Paul – Each Way

Yannick Paul can feel slightly disappointed to not be on the plane to Rome because the Germans form this year was fully deserving of a place. Six top tens already for Paul this season and he has a good opportunity for further success this week in a course that should suit him. Paul ranks 2nd on Tour in strokes gained on approach this season, so that should play into his hands around the K Club. This is a good opportunity for Paul to show Luke Donald what he missed out on.

Guido Migliozzi – Each Way

Guido has had a very good season thus far, even at one stage being whispered to be in contention for a Ryder Cup place. His last six events have resulted in six cuts including a top ten at the BMW International Open and a T-13 finish last week at the European Masters. Last week included rounds of 61 and 63 so the form and ability is there. The Italian is one to watch this week.
