Mark Lawrenson's Premier League betting predictions

The 2024/25 Premier League season is hurtling towards its halfway point, and Paddy’s pal Mark Lawrenson is steadfastly gazing into his crystal ball every single match day.

The Soccer Soothsayer has read the signs and crunched the numbers to produce his Premier League predictions over the coming days. Let’s see what the future holds…

*Since publication the Merseyside derby has been postponed

Saturday 12.30pm: Everton v Liverpool

TV: TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate

Everton had a great result during the week and Liverpool were held right at the death against Newcastle. It’s the last Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park so it will be absolutely febrile in there. You know what, I’m going to go for a draw.

It’s Everton’s FA Cup Final, Champions League final and World Cup Final all rolled in to one. You know they’ll be super aggressive which teams in the lower half of the table have to be. As it’s the last one at Goodison they’ll be well up for it. Everton 1-1 Liverpool.

Saturday 3pm: Aston Villa v Southampton

Southampton got pumped during the week. I fancy Villa to win quite handsomely and you’d think they’ve turned the corner now. Southampton just can’t change the way they play. They’re really easy on the eye but the amount of goals they concede is not going to keep them in the league. Aston Villa 3-0 Southampton.

Saturday 3pm: Brentford v Newcastle

Brentford are lethal at home but Newcastle would have been buoyed with that last-minute equaliser against Liverpool. I’m going to back Brentford to continue their excellent home form and they score loads of goals, too. Brentford 2-1 Newcastle.

Saturday 3pm: Crystal Palace v Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne’s back pulling all the strings for Manchester City and you have to say that Pep Guardiola’s done well with him because he’ll have been desperate to play but Pep kept saying he wasn’t ready which he obviously wasn’t. Crystal Palace had a good result but City should win this. Crystal Palace 0-2 Manchester City.

Saturday 5.30pm: Man Utd v Nott’m Forest

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

It won’t have surprised Ruben Amorim, what happened against Arsenal. In many ways you lean more from losing than you do from winning and he’ll know a bit more about his players. I fancy them to bounce back on Saturday. Manchester United 2-0 Nottingham Forest.

Sunday 2pm: Fulham v Arsenal

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Fulham might be a bit knackered from playing on Thursday while Arsenal will have had an extra day’s rest and it’s not exactly far to travel. They don’t have any injuries either so you can’t see anything other than an Arsenal win. Fulham 0-2 Arsenal.

Sunday 2pm: Ipswich v Bournemouth

Bournemouth’s problem is inconsistency because on their day they’re a really good team. Ipswich need a response after losing to Palace on Tuesday and I think they might get it. Ipswich 2-1 Bournemouth.

Sunday 2pm: Leicester v Brighton

I know Leicester are at home and they might have the new-manager bounce but Brighton are a proper team. They’ll have too much class for Leicester. Leicester 1-2 Brighton.

Sunday 4.30pm: Tottenham v Chelsea

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

I’m going with Spurs to win this. They haven’t won too many big games but I think this might be right up their street. They way Chelsea will come at them will play into their hands. Spurs are good at home and I just have a feeling this will float their boat. Tottenham 2-0 Chelsea.

Monday 8pm: West Ham v Wolves

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

I wonder if both managers have ever been sacked after a game. It might just happen here. I can’t really see either actually winning this so it’s going to be a stalemate. West Ham 1-1 Wolves.
