Sunday 9.00pm: Real Madrid v Barcelona
La Liga match at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
Both teams to score
A contrasting Champions League midweek for Carlo Ancelotti and Xavi Hernandez means Barcelona head to Madrid with only pride left to play for this season. Short of a Los Blancos collapse, Ancelotti will snatch away Xavi’s league crown in the coming weeks, as the former Spanish international prepares to say adiós to Barcelona this summer. However, the visitors will be like a scorned beast following defeat to PSG, with Ancelotti’s side freshly back from a long night in Manchester.
Goals traditionally fly in as part of El Clasico battles, with seven of the last ten meetings in all competitions featuring both teams scoring, and Barcelona have scored in all three of their trips to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu under Xavi’s leadership.
Over 3.5 goals
With the goals expected at both ends of the pitch on a busy night in Madrid the overall goal counter will rack up. Four of Real Madrid’s last eight games have featured over 3.5 goals scored in total, with Barcelona’s tally standing at three of their last six breaking that barrier.
Since Xavi’s return to Barcelona in November 2021, six of his nine El Clasico showdowns with Real Madrid have featured over three goals scored combined, and he will want his final meeting with them to leave a mark.

Vinicius Junior to score
Vinicius Junior failed to find the back of the net in either Champions League game against City as he matched Erling Haaland’s goal output in Madrid and Manchester. However, with 18 goals in all competitions this season, he is Real Madrid second highest goal scorer, in behind Jude Bellingham on 20.
Current form can sometimes become irrelevant for El Clasico, as the blood starts pumping, and Vini Jr LOVES playing against Barcelona. He has four goals in his last three games against them including a hat trick in January’s 4-1 Spanish Super Cup final win.
Ronald Araujo to be carded
Ronald Araujo was at the centre of Barcelona’s Champions League defeat to PSG as his early red card paved the way for a Parisian onslaught in Barcelona. His sending off has caused rumours of a rift within the squad as Ilkay Gundogan pointed post match fingers.
Xavi will stick by him for this game, but the Uruguayan will be riled up, and he is a regular for a booking against Real Madrid. In total, his last six games against Real Madrid have seen four cards against him, including a double booking and dismissal in the Super Cup final.
Raphinha to have 1+ shots on target
Xavi and Barcelona will need a shining light in Madrid and Brazilian winger Raphinha has proven to be just that in recent weeks with four goals in his last three starts. His average of 1.4 shots on target is higher than any other regular Barcelona starter in league action and is the fourth highest in La Liga so far this season.
