Luton v Brentford

Both Teams to Score

Luton’s have only won once in their last 12 league games, but Rob Edwards’ side could not have asked for a more winnable final five games of the season. Four of their final five games are against teams in the bottom half, starting with a home fixture against Brentford on Saturday, who can virtually secure their safety by avoiding defeat.

Defeat for Brentford, however, would see them looking nervously over their shoulder for the final four games of the season. Saturday’s game could go either way, but there should be plenty of goals regardless of the result.

Only Aston Villa and Newcastle have been involved in more goals than Luton this season, who have proved incapable of keeping clean sheets in their first season in the Premier League. However, teams have proved equally incapable of keeping clean sheets against Luton, who have found the back of the net in 20 of their last 21 league games, scoring 35 goals.

At the other end, they have kept just two clean sheets in that 21-games spell, including none in each of their last 12 games. They boast the second-worst defensive record in the league and it would be hugely surprising if Saturday’s clash with Brentford ended in a low-scoring affair.

Brentford to Receive the Most Cards

The difference between Luton and Brentford’s disciplinary records is night and day.

Rob Edwards’ side are the only team in the league yet to receive a red card this season, while they have only picked up 60 bookings, leaving them with the fourth-best disciplinary record in the Premier League.

Brentford, on the other hand, have received 78 bookings and two red cards, leaving them with the 14th-best record. The Bees concede the second-fewest fouls per game in the league, averaging just 10.1 per game, but they are clearly making the wrong sorts of fouls and are likely to receive more cards on Saturday afternoon.

Sheffield United v Burnley

Over 2.5 Goals

Both Sheffield United and Burnley are almost certainly heading for the drop regardless of Saturday’s result, but whoever fails to win at Bramall Lane may as well pack it in altogether.

Sheffield United, who are ten points from safety with a game in hand, and Burnley, who are six points from safety, are very much in last-chance saloon territory, especially since their miserable goal difference means they will almost certainly have to make up an additional point on Nottingham Forest if they are to survive. It is hardly surprising that their goal difference is so bad, considering the amount of goals both concede.

Sheffield United boast by far the worst defensive record in the league, conceding an astonishing 84 goals in 32 games, just five goals shy of the 38-game season record set by the infamous Derby side of 2007/08. An incredible 47 of those goals have been conceded at home.
Burnley, meanwhile, have conceded 68 goals this season – the third-worst record in the division – and it is simply impossible to imagine a low-scoring affair on Saturday.

Burnley to have 5 or more Shots on Target

Sheffield United have faced the second-highest number of shots in the league this season, losing top spot mostly because of Manchester United’s horrendous recent statistics. However, they are out on their own in terms of shots on target faced.

The Blades have faced an incredible 212 shots on target in 32 league games, by far the most of any Premier League club. That roughly translates into an average of around seven shots on target per game.

They have faced 42 shots on target in their last five home league games at an average of over eight per game, while they have conceded an astonishing 21 goals in the process. Burnley should hit the target on at least five occasions.

A Red Card in the Match

No club has received more red cards than Burnley, who have received seven dismissals in 33 games. Ten league games involving Burnley this season have seen a red card, including three of their last five games.

Sheffield United are no angels either, picking up four red cards in 32 games – the third-highest tally in the league. The Blades received a red card in the reverse fixture back in December when Oli McBurnie was given his marching orders on the stroke of half time and it’s not outside the realms of possibility that another red card will be issued on Saturday, especially given the magnitude of the match.
