Man City v Arsenal
Sunday, 4:30pm
Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester
TV: Sky Sports Main Event
I’m hoping we see another cracking game like the Liverpool-United in the cup before the International break on Sunday – what a great advert for English football and the Premier League that was!
And this is massive in the league and the three-horse title race – it should be a great game.
Arsenal can take hope from City’s draw against Liverpool recently. It was amazing to see a Pep Guardiola side giving the ball away like that – it did feel like they were a bit rattled at times.
And they have put themselves in the mix this season with their form since January. if Arsenal win on Sunday, it really shakes things up.
Kyle Walker is key to City’s defence and John Stones has turned into such an important player for them too. They both picked up knocks playing for England and if they’re missing they’re missing or hampered that’s a worry for Man City.
And Arsenal will be galvanized by that too, knowing that their title rivals aren’t at full-strength.
Mikel Arteta’s team have been class in recent weeks too. Honestly, every time I watch them, they look full of goals.
It’s exciting. They’re actually demolishing teams like we’ve seen City and Liverpool do so in recent years. The manager’s done such a good job to make them into one of those sides that control games like that. A win here would really be a statement and show they belong in the title race.
Quite often we have a two-horse race or maybe one team pulls away, but at the moment you literally couldn’t call it with three teams all challenging.
My gut feeling is Liverpool will do it in the Premier League – no bias! – and City will win the Champions League. It’s just so hard to win both.
Obviously this weekend’s game will have an impact on that.
Man City to Win
Liverpool got to City in that league game in part because of Anfield and being at home.
City are at home for this and that makes a difference. Arsenal have goals in them ans I can see them scoring but I think City will just edge what should be a great game.
Phil Foden to Score
Phil Foden’s just in great form, isn’t he? Haaland’s the obvious one but I’ll go for Foden to nick a crucial goal here.
Kevin De Bruyne to have 1 or more shots on target
Kevin De Bruyne should be back after missing the international window. That is a positive, but obviously with the injury and all that he’s still kind of getting back to football. This season has been a bit stop-start for him. Having him in the team is a massive plus though if he does play and it lifts everyone around him when you’ve got a few other big leaders potentially out.
He’ll be involved in everything and should have at least a shot on target by the end.
Martin Odegaard to have 1 or more shots on target
On the other side of the pitch, Martin Odegaard is pivotal for Arsenal chances in the game and he should also get at least one effort on goal.
Rodri to commit 1 or more fouls
I can see a few tackles and cards flying around in this. There’s a lot at stake. I’ll go for Rodri again to commit at least one foul.
I’ve seen him lose his rag a few times so one foul is not much to ask.
