Man City v Copenhagen
Champions League match at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester
TV: TNT Sports, Wednesday, 8pm

Manchester City -2

Despite losing by two goals, Copenhagen held their own in the first leg against Manchester City and have also given a good account of themselves in their three Champions League away games to date, drawing away to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray and only losing narrowly against Manchester United following a late penalty miss.

However, they are unlikely to put up too much resistance against a City side that has shown glimpses that it is about to click into gear.

City demolished Luton in the FA Cup last week, with Erling Haaland scoring five times in a 6-2 win, while they were utterly dominant against United on Sunday, eventually securing a 3-1 win after bombarding the United goal for pretty much the entire game.

They are virtually assured of a place in the last eight already, but they will want to snuff out any slight possibility of an upset as early as possible.

The hosts have scored three goals in each of their seven Champions League games to date and there is no reason to think that they will not do so again on Wednesday night.

Erling Haaland to have 3 or more Shots on Target

Erling Haaland is having a strange few weeks after returning from injury. The Norwegian striker scored an incredible five goals in City’s win at Luton last week but then endured a relatively anonymous 90 minutes against United save for one of the worst misses in recent memory when the game still looked in doubt.

He eventually did get himself on the scoresheet when City looked like winning in any case. Haaland scored the all-important goal in City’s vital 1-0 win at Brentford, but it took him six attempts to find the back of the net.

A high volume of shots is something synonymous with Haaland’s game. The Norwegian striker averages an astonishing 4.1 shots per game in the Premier League, by far the most of any City player, or any Premier League player for that matter.

City have attempted a staggering 133 shots in their six home games in 2024 and there is no reason to think that they won’t reach similar levels on Wednesday against Copenhagen. Haaland should be responsible for a significant number of those shots.

Real Madrid v RB Leipzig
Champions League match at the Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid
TV: TNT Sports, Wednesday, 8pm

Both Teams to Score

Real Madrid come into this game off the back of one of the most bizarre endings in recent memory, when Jude Bellingham headed into the net seconds after the final whistle was blown and their game against Valencia ended in a 2-2 draw. Bellingham was subsequently issued a red card for his protestations.

The Spanish side will need to regroup ahead of Wednesday’s second leg against RB Leipzig, which is by no means a shut case despite their win in Germany three weeks ago. Real were largely fortunate to emerge 1-0 victors in that first leg, surviving nine shots on target and a controversially disallowed goal.

They face a Leipzig side that has scored an impressive 53 goals in 24 Bundesliga games in addition to causing City plenty of problems in the group stages, scoring twice at the Etihad and once in Germany. The away side have also conceded in seven of their last nine games and boast little hope of keeping a clean sheet at the Bernabeu.

Jude Bellingham to Score

Jude Bellingham may be suspended for Madrid’s upcoming game against Celta Vigo, but he is very much available on Wednesday night and should make an impact. The English midfielder has enjoyed an astonishing maiden campaign in Madrid, scoring 20 goals in 27 appearances, including four goals in five Champions League games.

He was influential in two of Madrid’s home games during the group stages and is likely to be influential again on Wednesday night if they are to progress to the last eight.

Over 4.5 RB Leipzig Corners

Leipzig attempted 14 shots and won seven corners in their first leg defeat. They are unlikely to be so dominant playing away from home but they are also likely to pile on the pressure in search of a route back into the tie if the game remains in the balance on Wednesday.

Madrid have faced 51 shots in their last six games at a rate of over eight per game and Leipzig should at least hit that figure as they chase the tie at the Bernabeu. There is every chance that they win at least five corners.
