    Luton v Man United
Premier League match at Kenilworth Road, Luton
TV: Sky Sports Premier League & Main Event, Sunday 4:30pm

Both Luton and Manchester United are on the up. They are eighth and third in the six-game Premier League form table respectively when they were 18th and eighth for the season before that. But both are also still some way from achieving their goals.

Erik ten Hag’s boys go into the weekend priced at 6/1 for a top-four finish and 11/4 for the top five. Luton’s battle to avoid relegation is complicated by the potential points deduction issues of the teams on either side of them but they remain odds-on to go down.

This match signals the start of a tricky spell for the Hatters. After this match they travel to Anfield in midweek, then host Manchester City in the FA Cup and Aston Villa in the league. It says something when a match against the famous Manchester United is a relegation favourite’s easiest for almost a month, but we are where we are.

    Man United to Win

Paddy Power has United as strong favourites to win this game and their form is strong. They have won five and drawn one of their last six games, and while two of those victories were against lower league teams in the FA Cup, any triumph is good for confidence and momentum.

They’ve been leaving it late on the road though. Last week’s 2-1 win at Aston Villa was secured with an 86th-minute goal from Scott McTominay while Kobbie Mainoo popped up in the 97th minute at Molineux to grab a winner 10 days earlier.

A theme of this season is that United have been rescued by unlikely players – Victor Lindelof got the only goal when Luton lost at Old Trafford in November to prove the point. A lesser spotted trend in the ten Hag era is that his side has mostly done well against struggling sides.

There are obvious exceptions. United lost at Nottingham Forest in December, for instance. But on the road against last season’s bottom 10 sides and the teams in those positions at present, the Red Devils have 12 wins and two draws from 16 matches. United should do enough here to claim another three points.

        Over 2.5 Goals

At the start of the weekend, Luton are behind only Tottenham and Brighton for Premier League matches this season in which both teams scored and there were at least three goals. A big part of this is because the Hatters usually find the net, no team outside the top five in the table has failed to score less often. This is even more pronounced at Kenilworth Road, with Tottenham the only one of 12 visiting sides to have kept a clean sheet.

This suggests that a bet on both teams to score is the way to go, but the odds are the same (at the time of writing) for Over 2.5 Goals. Assuming Luton score, United will need two to win and the visitors may get three in any case.

        Marcus Rashford to Score

Marcus Rashford is United’s top scorer on the road in the Premier League this term, with four goals. While not on the score sheet at Villa Park last weekend, the England international was on the mark in the two away games before that and has scored at Luton’s fellow strugglers Everton and Nottingham Forest.

Rashford also scored when United last visited this corner of Bedfordshire and with three goals in his last six appearances, his form is as good as it has been all season.

        Over 11.5 Corners

United aren’t going to be winning the league this season but they are likely to finish top of the ‘total corners’ table. It’s something to build on, innit?

Kenilworth Road has seen a lot of action on this front too. Every league match there has seen at least nine corners and an average of 11.4 so it’s reasonable to expect there to be Over 11.5 when United are in town.

        Over 4.5 Cards

Luton are bottom of the league for total cards, with their matches having seen an average of 3.4 this season. However, only seven teams have committed more fouls than Rob Edwards’ side yet only Arsenal and Manchester City have received fewer bookings. It couldn’t be a case of referees siding with an underdog, could it? In English football? As if.

Luton are unlikely to be treated as kindly here. Match referee David Coote averages the most yellow cards per game among the Premier League’s 10 most experienced officials and has issued 4.3 per match across the last three seasons. As United’s last five away games have all seen at least five cards and their average per match is 4.5, finish up your Bet Builder with Over 4.5 Cards.
