8:00pm – Bayer Leverkusen v Roma
UEFA Europa League match at the BayArena, Leverkusen
TV: TNT Sports 2
Bayer Leverkusen to win
Xabi Alonso is a man on a mission at Leverkusen this season. After securing a first ever Bundesliga title at the BayArena, the former Spanish international has shown his intent to power on, and win more trophies.
A 2-0 victory in the first leg in Rome has set his team up to dump out Daniele De Rossi’s visitors and remain on course for a trophy treble this month as part of an astonishing campaign. Their 5-1 Bundesliga weekend win over Eintracht Frankfurt has edged Alonso’s charges up to 48 games unbeaten, level with Benfica’s European all competitions record from 1965.
Another historical night beckons for Alonso and a squad determined to keep on winning.
Victor Boniface to score anytime
One of the key features of Alonso’s thrilling side is a variation in goal scorers this season with five players netting over 10 goals across all competitions. However, Nigerian star Victor Boniface remains the leader of the pack, with 19, despite his injury issues in 2024.
The 23-year-old is back in the starting line up for Alonso, with three goals in his last three starts, and this game could see him finally hit the 20 goal mark for 2023/24.
Over 4.5 cards
If Leverkusen start to hit their stride, Roma will grow frustrated, with De Rossi no shrinking violet when it comes to a row. The first leg produced six yellow cards, three each, and this could a feisty one in Germany. Roma’s second leg against AC Milan ended with seven cards handed out and they will not go down without a fight.
Atalanta v Marseille
UEFA Europa League match at the Gewiss Stadium, Bergamo
TV: TNT Sports 3
Atalanta to Win
This tie is tightly poised after a 1-1 draw in Marseille with neither side able to carve out a late winner in the south of France. Marseille are unlikely to qualify for Europe via Ligue 1 in the coming weeks so their chances of continental football next season hinge on this game.
However, there is a sense of their chance already passing, with Atalanta losing just one of their last eight in domestic and Europa League action. Liverpool are the only team to beat them in Bergamo, in their last five home games, and Marseille don’t carry that same threat, with no away win in five.
Gianluca Scamacca to score anytime
From struggling to make his mark at West Ham, to thriving back in Italy, Gianluca Scamacca is in red hot form for Atalanta. With 18 club goals in all competitions, since leaving the London Stadium last summer, he is a strong option to find the back of the net after bagging seven goals in his last seven appearances.
