Manchester United v Bayern Munich
Tuesday, December 12: 8pm
TV: TNT Sports
Bayern Munich already have top spot signed and sealed but can Man Utd beat the odds and qualify for the Champions League knockout stages by beating the Bavarians and then hoping that Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw?
Both teams to Score
Goals are inevitable in this game, regardless of how strong of a team Thomas Tuchel puts out for already-qualified Bayern Munich. The visitors have already bagged 11 goals in five games but the key to this landing is Man Utd.
Erik ten Hag’s team have actually outscored Bayern in Europe this season with 12 goals but the issue is that they’ve also conceded 14. They simply can’t stop goals going in at either end of the pitch and given that they have to win it’s only going to mean more attacking play and weakness at the back.
A Goal Scored in Both Halves
This is really an extension of the above. I think United have to start pushing early in this game and given that they alone have scored goals in both halves of three of their five games, this should land.
United need to come quickly out of the blocks for this one and I’d expect their attacking play to result in a goal in the first half, whether that’s for the home side or against them as a result of going too hard to score. There are goals in this match, don’t forget the reverse fixture finished 4-3.

Rasmus Hojlund to Score
The young Danish striker hasn’t hit the heights expected of him in the Premier League yet where he’s not managed to score yet. However, he has managed to score in the Champions League, in fact he’s scored five goals in five games.
With United needing goals they’re going to have to have Holjund on the pitch and we know he should at least get plenty of chances. Given how well he’s performed, at least in Europe, this season, he should be able to convert at least one here.
Luke Shaw to Commit 2 or more Fouls
One of Bayern Munich’s strongest areas are the wide men that they have either side of Harry Kane. It’s not clear who will be starting given the team have already qualified but given the depth in these positions it’ll be a hard evening for Luke Shaw regardless.
He’ll either be tasked with pushing forward and supporting attacks, or moved into a central defensive role which isn’t his natural position. He’s a very good player but in his only Champions League appearance this season he gave up four fouls and I think we’ll at least two here.
Bruno Fernandes to Commit 1 or more Fouls
Unless he gets injured we know we’re going to see Bruno Fernandes for the whole 90 minutes, always something worth considering with any fouls market. With United needing the win it’s easy to picture Fernandes committing fouls if things aren’t going his team’s way.
He’s averaged 1.3 fouls per game in the Premier League this campaign and given the importance of this game he’ll be playing with the ferocity and commitment expected of the captain, as he looks to get his side to the next round.
