Chelsea v Borussia Dortmund

TV: BT Sport 1 (8pm)

Borussia Dortmund to Win

Chelsea picked up their first win in seven games with their 1-0 win over Leeds on Saturday afternoon, but they still have a long way to go before they convince anyone that they are the finished article. That was just their third win in 13 games in all competitions since returning from the World Cup break and their season is in danger of coming to an end on Tuesday night if they cannot make it four wins from 14 games.

Dumped out of both cup competitions and miles off the pace in the league, the Champions League is Chelsea’s last hope to do anything of note this season. Unfortunately for them, they are up against a Dortmund outfit that has been in red-hot form since the mid-season break.

Dortmund have won each of their 11 games in all competitions since the World Cup and are now level on points with Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga. They are a highly-polished outfit and should have too much for Graham Potter’s stuttering Chelsea side.

Both Teams to Score

At the root of Chelsea’s struggles under Potter has been their inability to find the back of the net. Chelsea have scored the fewest goals of any teams in the top ten, averaging less than a goal per game in the Premier League. Their record of 24 goals in 25 games is equal to that of bottom-placed Bournemouth.

Since returning from the World Cup, Chelsea have failed to score in seven of their 13 games in all competitions, while they have only managed to score more than one goal in a single game on one occasion.

Dortmund have kept three clean sheets in their last five games, including in the 1-0 win over Chelsea in Germany three weeks ago. It wouldn’t be surprising if they kept Chelsea out again on Tuesday night.

Benfica v Club Brugge

TV: BT Sport 2 (8pm)

Benfica -1

Much like Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, the form of Benfica and Club Brugge couldn’t be more contrasting since the World Cup. Benfica are currently on a seven-game winning run in the league to stretch their lead at the top of the table to eight points, while they also recorded a relatively comfortable 2-0 win in Belgium in the first-leg of this tie three weeks ago.

Club Brugge, on the other hand, have struggled since the appointment of Scott Parker as manager at the end of December, winning just two of 11 games in all competitions under the former Bournemouth and Fulham manager.

It’s hard to see anything but a comfortable Benfica win on Tuesday.

Goncalo Ramos to Score Anytime

Goncalo Ramos scored twice in Benfica’s 2-0 win over Familicao in the league on Friday, ending a run of seven games without a goal.

No Benfica player has scored more goals this season than Ramos, on 21 so far for the season, while no Benfica player has scored more in Europe than the Portuguese striker, although four of his goals did come in the Champions League qualifying rounds.

Ramos is one of the most promising young forwards in world football and will undoubtedly be the next Benfica player to fetch an astronomical fee in the transfer market.

He can further inflate his value by scoring in the Champions League knockout stages for the second season running.
